Who Hates Christmas?
Inspired by C.S.Strowbridge's coment in Crimsons thread...
Who hates Christmas?
I hate the fact that I have to spend time with relatives who I can't stand so I can be patronised and ignored (which is why I'm working on Christmas this year).
Anyone else?
P.S.
This is my first poll, so don't get pissy if it doesn't work right!

I don't love commercialisation of holidays belonging to religions I don't subscribe to.

I'm kind of torn about Christmas.
Begin Long Rant
My mom is very into it and my parents really go to town decorating the inside of the house. My mom collects clothteque santas so they are everywhere. Plus they have a pretty cool tree with ornaments that have been collected over the years. Luckilly since I don't live there anymore I don't have to help put everything up and take everything down. The drawback is that they think I should decorate my place some.
I have plenty of cool ornaments because my mom used to get some for my sister and me every year. I have a mini-tree that is really a too small for most of my ornaments to work well but when it comes down to it I like how my house is decorated and don't like screwing around with it too much because I hate having to get everything out and put it back a month later.
So, I like Christmas because my parents and some of their neighbors like it a lot but it's really lost a lot of its appeal to me. My brother in-law is a pain in the ass to buy for. He's picky and he doesn't like gift certificates because it's impersonable. Plus, whenever we see him he either gets upset or my mom does. It's mostly friction of specific family quirks, oh and he can be a bit pompass at times (is that an engineer thing? ) .
Another knock on Christmas is because one of the reasons we moved down to Arizona is to be closer to my mom's side of the family. For the first few years that meant we got together for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I lucked out a missed a few of the really bad ones (my cousin showing the video of her giving birth to her son to everyone during Thanksgiving at her house. We're talking porno style close-ups here. ) but I caught a few after I got out of the Navy. Then parts of my mom's family started moving away but before that first Thanksgiving get togethers went away and then no one wanted to participate in Christmas either. In one sense it really pisses me off that we moved here to be closer to my mom's family and then it got to where they didn't really care, on the other hand I am very glad not to have to have those massive family get togethers because crap always gets stirred up and the old grudges come out. We never seemed to have as many problems when I was growing up and it was primarilly my dad's family that we were with at Christmas and I don't think I was just too young to notice.
I used to have fun finding presents for people. Now it seems like a chore. I also don't get a lot of enjoyment out of getting presents either because most of the time the affordable stuff I buy myself long before the holidays. My parents are cool and sometimes by me stuff that is rather expensive or that I need but for the most part Christmas is well past the "oh boy" level that it had when I was a kid. Still I guess that my mom and to a lesser extent my sister sometimes find me stuff that's cool that I would not have bought myself (I think half of the Godzilla stuff I have came that way).
I suppose it doesn't help that first with the Navy and then now with working in a hospital holidays in general have really lost their appeal. I have worked so many and continue to do so that I don't see them as a big deal. In fact I often find them an annonance because they'll short staff us so there aren't too many people getting time and a half. Funny, people don't stop getting sick or doing dumb ass shit just because it's a holiday. In fact, people often hold out trying to make it to holidays or they celebrate too much end up in the hospital because they gorged or drank too much.
Anyway, I still like Christmas but I have a lot of issues with it and holidays in general.

I love Christmas.. it's that time where I put that extra effort in to show my friends and family that they're important enough to me to empty my bank account. Not just in support of capitalism, but I think it's nice to be able to get them something tangible.
But also Christmas is that time when everyone's a little bit nicer to everyone, a little bit more considerate.. reflective of the year, the bright decorations are out, sitting down with a hot cup of chocolate.. the Christmas feast.. yup.

I love christmas. Spending time with my mum dad and sisters while eatting loads and drinking even more. It's great. The presents this year have been cancled because the owners of my dads factory are french canadian cunts who don't agree with the idea of a fair wage for a fair days work.

Where I live Christmas mainly means "go out and have fun". During college I wasn't quite with the "class inner-circle" and every X-Mas they went out on their own. The clubs I joined were either too serious or didn't hold activities, and I didn't have much friends (college tradition). My wierd feeling was mixed with "Ah, just another holiday" vs. "Damn everyone is happy". Reached a point and actually began hating Christmas. Graduated, grew up, now it's "Take some rest" vs. "Go do something"

Yeah, Christmas is fun, but the endless Christmas music is enough to give me a migraine. Yes, I know Christmas is coming, I don't need to hear "Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer" 20 times a day for a month to know that.Asst. Asst. Lt. Cmdr. christmas shouldn't be too bad this year at work...
instead of the usual cheesy crap... my manager is getting hold of a load of "unplugged" christmas songs... acoustic rock style...
should be slightly more managable.

It's that generic commercial holiday that happens to fall on the 25th of December that I don't like because I never know what to get any of those greedy opportunistic bastards, and I dislike recieving holiday gifts in general, since it makes me feel distinctly uncomfortable, and the people who get me the gifts clearly have as much of an idea about what I like as I do about what they like.
What I do like is the fact that the company shuts down from the 24th to the 1st of January. I can get some serious relaxation time (cleaning, improving my cooking skills, writing my novel, etc, etc, etc.)
In short, I tend to just grit my teeth and wait until the alcohol wears off on the second of January.

Christmas the holiday is nice. Being able to get together with friends and family is always a plus.
However, Christmas the commercial sales event is horrible. I frankly don't want to go to any mall until around February or so when all the stupid, over-hyped sales have died down.

Finishing up finals after two grueling, miserable weeks and jetting home to sit on my ass and play video games, go to movies with my best friend, spend a lot of time with my family and get presents, and go on a nice bowl trip to cheer the Dawgs one last time before the dull 8 months that constitute the off-season is something I look forward to all year. So yeah, I like Christmas.

hehe... My family is to... wrong... That it is the very commercialization that we celebrate. We have no religious leaning, and we simply dont have a "normal" person in the family, and no three of the four people get along particularly well with each other besides my om, but maybe that is a sibling thing. I suppose the most "normal" is my sister, and she is a co-dependant stoner.

I like Christmas for several reasons...first and foremost above all others the legend of Santa Claus. I dunno about you, but I like Santa.
On a more personal level, I like Christmas because not only do I get together with my extended family (I'm Italian, we have very strong family bonds ), but we eat a lot of ham as well. And you get a lot of free shit too. This year I'm especially looking forward to since it's my niece's first Christmas.
However, I completely and totally eschew any and all Christian aspects of Christmas, i.e. the myth of the Nativity and Christ being born merely 4 days after the Winter Solstice. Everything except Santa Claus: any legend which inspires children to be good and generous is totally fine by me, even if it is for material gain

Those of you who hate Christmas will learn to love buying toys when you have your own kids. Watching the kids' eyes light up when they get their presents on Christmas day makes it all worth it.
