You know why I hate Christmas? This year when I went to get some stuff for my Birthday party I saw a six foot Santa on display. My birthday is in August.

I hate any artifical reason to get together. I don't do Christmas, or Valentine's Day or Mother's day. Hell, this year for my birthday I bought myself a couple of DVDs and told everyone else to fuck off.

I like it because it's fun.

The decorations are a hassle but the family gathering and feast that abounds is fun stuff.

That and usually the office closes for such a lovable amount of time, that I can finally lay back and enjoy myself for a week.

The day itself is to me irrelevant. On the plus side, I get a day off. However, everything is closed so I can't get anything done. There's nothing on T.V. and nowhere to go. Then my mother will want me to visit with her. Then there's the lead up. It's already been mentioned, but I hate the endless Christmas music. I hate the Salvation Army folks ringing those damn loud bells outside of every store. I hate that freaky robotic Santa Wal-Mart has by the door that starts singing every time someone walks by. I hate the crowds. I hate the fact that people are even more offended than normal by my lack of friendliness. I started out saying that I don't hate Christmas, but now that I think about it, Christmas brings me no pleasure and a great deal of aggravation.

It is that day of the year, when we get one big masive gift for the entirefamily(a new computer, a huge TV etc) which is a big plus. ANd i get to gourge myself on food.

On the other hand. I am forced to deal with my entire family at once. I love them, but I also cant stand my siblings most of the time. Maybe I am a bit elitest, or self-important.. but I am the only one of my moms children that has a fucking goal in life... Oh the arguments that insue on just a normal day, let alone one where we are forced to sit around together and try to be nice. It is actually kind of funny when I think about it.

Here is a conversation I expect to have.

Brother:"So Ben, are you going to go look for a job today?"

Me: And your IQ is???? #1 the economy is shit, and I dont have a car, no one in walking distance is hiring, I have checked. And #2 the christian people of this country attach a different meaning to this day than we do and the stores are closed"

Brother: "You know what your problem is, you lack ambition"

Me: "I lack ambition? I wont even ask what drugs you are on, I already know, but WTF? You are 23 years old, and you still live at home, you are working a dead end job because you dropped out of school, and you want to talk to me, your college bound, soon to be nobel laurete brother about ambition?"

From here he would go into ths big thing about how he had a job at my age(he dropped out of school to work at Burger King and moonlighted as a drug dealer) and that, becase dont have a job yet, my opinion doesnt matter, even though I am the one who actually has some semblence of an education, and keeps himself informded about the world so he can *gasp* vote in the general election next year

Do I sound bitter?

My sister is co-dependant and cant stand not having friends over/being away with friends "chillin"(read: Smoking pot) And she will bitch and bitch and bitch because she cant go get stoned with her friends. We get along, but I am so disappointed in her... I thought she would be a bit more... well... just, more.

Ah, mother. hehehehehehe. I think she would be one of those crazy ladies on the hill with all the cats, if she didnt hate cats. :P I am a fucking loon, so we get along great.

I like Christmas. Actually, the worst part about it is as soon as it's over, there's nothing but three dreary months of winter to look forward to.

There are some things about it that I can't stand, but there are also things about it which I love and look forward to every year. For me, it has nothing to do with religion. It just has to do with love.

As DW said, I'm sure Christmas will be fun again once I have kids.....but for now, it's become a chore.

I like getting together with my relatives (even moreso when my mother isn't around) but I'm too lazy to do decorations and shit.

Some of the seasonal music sounds nice but I don't buy into any of the Christian fluff.

i don´t do christmas but still hate it because so many other do it. it sucks because people tend to be stressed a lot more because they have to get presents in crowded shops and crap like that. it seems like around christmas people tend to be a lot less relaxed.
