SSR is a huge disappointment. For 40 grand, you get something which tries to be a street-rodding truck, but lacks the raw power. It tries to have a "custom" looking interior, but it just looks plasticky. I will say that the folding top is pretty freakin' cool, though.

GM threw away thirty-five years of history when they nixed the Camaro. The money they spent on developing the SSR could've done a lot to make the Camaro an awesome muscle car once again.

I like the classy look, to be honest, but I hate the function of it. It would look better if it were a full car or a full pickup.

Pfft, the guys that make the cars are still Brits, it's no different to us once owning Smith & Wesson and most of your school bus services.

Besides, our vintage models beat the crap out of muscle cars* which have all the elegance of Cold War era Ladas.

*The '65 Mustang in Bullitt being the exception.

You'll note they actually employ car designers at TVR. They are not cars made from blocks of steel with the biggest damn engine available short of a gas turbine.

Plus, Hollywood likes them a lot now.

There's a thing on GTO, new & old, on the XXX DVD.

The new one looks okay but not as cool as the older models.

At least some of the test results on the new one mention a manual transmission. There's just something wrong about supposed high preformance automobiles having a automatic transmission.

Tell me you are not refering to the tiny and underpowered Austin Healey, MG, and Triumph tin cans from the 60's? Those cars were about as refined and reliable as Polish farm equipment. The Jaguar XKE was a nice ride, but still it spend more time at the mechanic waiting for parts to arrive from Coventry than it did on the road.

oh and that was a 1968 Mustang in Bullitt.

What's wrong with cars made from blocks of steal with the biggest damn engine available stuffed in them?

It's not like anyone needs to be able to stop or turn in the US.

I wish we could put gas turbines in cars.

Unfortunately the US doesn't make those cars anymore. Instead the big slabs of stell are carved into SUVs which are then crammed with the biggest engine available.

There have even been advertisements where they make a big deal about the latest Dodge pickup and monster SUV having a Hemi engine in it. The commercial for the pickup has a guy towing a vintage Dodge Charger on a trailer, trying to connect the two in the minds of motorheads.

1968, so it is. Guess I like the earlier ones too.

And the Healey dealership around me sells the coupés with a range of decent engines, I never too much cared for MGs and Triumphs. You mentioned Triumph? A damn motorbike manufacturer? Their "cars" were as fugly as Ladas and about as fast and reliable. No, I mean the Aston-Martins, the Jag E-Types (amazing car!) and so forth.

Though for any practical modern day car, it's gotta be German or Japanese. My Dad's Audi A4 is, what, nine years old? And it's never broken down or needed repairs.

The Germans were never good with electronics. Not like the Japanese. Your best bet is a Japanese car built in the US or Canada. Honda Accord or Civic, Toyota Corolla etc.

I'd have to differ. The Germans have brilliant electronics from all experiences with them. The only problem I have seen was when my Dad needed to check the car's computer was okay since the seal on the casing didn't seem watertight, but that was due to the guys giving the MOT not checking properly.

In anycase, the £80k Merc my uncle has is, to say the least, the sweetest damn car I have been in. Easily nicer than the Maserati and Subarau Impreza WRX neighbours have.

My Dad however has always had a thing for the legendary Golf GTI.

BMW now builds Minis. That's one of the few things they retained when they (finally!) sold Rover.
Oh, and Rolly Royce is not VW. It's owned by BMW, as well.
Bentley is owned by VW, on the other hand.

And German cars are supreme, of course
