HE'S BAAAACK! - A POLITICS1 EXCLUSIVE - If anyone has doubts about Ralph Nader's plans for 2004, his new website should erase those doubts. Yup, it appears Nader will make a fourth run for President in 2004. The site -- which was registered October 24 by the folks at VoteNader.org (his official 2000 campaign site) -- went online this week in a very nascent form. The site also carries a disclaimer stating it was paid for by the "Nader 2004 Presidential Exploratory Committee, Inc." of Washington, DC.
He won't make much of a difference, loyal progressives should come out for Dean in large numbers this time around.

Nader will probably label Dean as a rightwing wacko and do his best to fuck him over
Some scoff when you say that Dean ruined it for Gore, but the piece of trash even admitted he wanted Bush over Gore
[conspiracy theory]Bush paid off Nader to fuck Gore up the butt[/conspiracy theory]
"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

He didn't get 5 percent, it was more like 2 percent.

Yes, the Democrats are in tears because they're laughing so hard. Nader's effect on the last election was insubstantial. If he hadn't run, his supporters would likely have stayed home. Not to mention that not even the Democrats want the radical leftists who tend to vote Green. All the serious Democratic frontrunners are all apparent centrists.
I voted for Nader in the last election as a protest vote and my token vote for more and better choices since I thought both Bush and Gore were roughly equally craptacular.
If it's Bush, Nader and someone crapy for the Dems again this time I'll likely leave the space for President blank and just vote on the other stuff.

Nader won't get half a percent. Last time, he had a pool of disgruntled liberals who were disillusioned with the Democrats after 8 years of Clinton. This year, those disgrutled liberals are screaming "Anyone except Bush!" They'd vote for Hitler if he was on the Democratic ticket.
The same thing happened for Bush in 2000. A lot of conservatives didn't like Bush very much at all, but they voted for him because 4 more years of the Democrats in power was beyond their ability to stomach. This year, they'll stay home or vote third party.

So Gore didn't need his %2.7
No. What Gore needed was to get more Democrats out of their houses to vote for him. Remember that the voter turnout for that election was pretty abysmal.
And what evidence is there that if Nader had dropped out, his voters wouldn't have just stayed home? Bush and Gore were craptacular centrist clones who were so busy stealing planks out of each other's platforms that it was hard to believe that they were running on opposing parties. Nader was really out in left field, and thus, tended to draw in people from way out in left field.
Though this is purely anecdotal, I have observed that Green Party supporters seemed attend Gore rallies for the express purpose of heckling him. No Nader probably would've meant an even lower voter turnout.

That's what pissed me off about the Republicans going with Bush. He seemed to be the main canidate of the more right wing portions of the party. I think the party would have had an easier time defeating Gore by going with McCain since he was clearly much more of a centrist than Bush. He might not have been the ideal canidate for a lot of the party but I think he would have drawn from outside the party better than Bush and the rest of the Republican party certainly wasn't going to vote for Nader in protest.

Honestly, doesn't Nader get tired of wasting money on these campaigns? I mean, in all seriousness, does he have a snowball's chance in hell of getting elected?
He does it to get his ideas out there. Successful third-party runs may induce the mainstream parties to try and appeal more to the fringe voters attracted to third party movements. That's how the theory goes, anyway.

Eh, guess so. Once the two bigger parties start seeing people possibly voting for Nader, their going to adjust their views a little to hopefully get that section of the constituency.
Well, look at what the Dems are doing now; Dean is a much more liberal candidate than Gore ever was. He won't drive off liberals in numbers as large as Gore did.

He also has a personality, something Gore was, you know, completely lacking.

Gore failed to bring home his home state. You can go back and forth about Florida all you want, but if Gore would've won his home state, Florida wouldn't have been an issue. He's got no one to blame but himself.

Not really, Perot only ran twice and was far more successful his first time around than Nader has been.

I suppose we should be glad that Perot shot himself in the foot the first time by temporarilly withdrawing or we might have ended up with a real wack job as president. In some of the behind the scenes stuff he sounds extremely paranoid, just the kind of person we need as president. It worked so well for Nixon.

Given that Nader originally said he wasn't going to run if "Dean or Kucinich" won the nomination, he must have figured out that Dean isn't the purist liberal idealogue Nader thought he was.

Unlikely seeing as most people who Vote Nader won't vote for the primary canadites as it is. I voted Nader because I refused to give my vote to either Gore or Bush.
