I just mean that with the Republicans so gung-ho about nailing the Clintons to the wall, you think they would have exhausted every means to do so.

I'm not suggesting that they are necessarily innocent, but with all the CONFIRMED illegal activities of our current President, I don't think we should bother with discussing possible illegal activities of a former president's wife, especially when the investigation turned up nothing.
The Navy was hit the hardest. 3 of our carriers are still wrecks.
Yes, I have heard that as well. A shame to be sure, and a mistake on Clinton's part.

BTW, has Bush laid budget plans to upgrade our carrier fleet? I haven't heard much about this lately.

His budgets have given the navy the full maintenance budgets it needs to keep them going. Design work for an new CVN is coming along nicely though the lay down date is still years off. But what we really need is not a new carrier design, its more planes. Each one should have about 75 strike aircraft, current air groups allow for just 50 but most ships only have 40. A large part of this is because Clinton had hundreds of newly rebuilt A-6's thrown into the ocean as artificial reefs. Unfortunately the situation won't improve because for some totally unknown, to me anyway, reason Congress slashed future F/A-18E and naval F-35 procurement.

Hehe, yeah I'm sure he and Shep have a lot to say about it. But it WAS Clinton's military that performed admirably during Afghanistan and Iraqi Freedom to a certain extent
The military did well in spite of the destruction cause by Clinton, and because they where getting billions in emergency funds to buy key equipment and munitions, like RIFLE AMMUNITION. The US Army was critically short of this most basic munition when September 11th rolled around and had to go around to places like South Africa to make emergency buys. On a different note several US soldiers and a large number of afghan allies where killed by errant JDAM's. Why? Because to call in strike with the weapon Special Forces had to repeat the coordinates by voice radio to bomber crewmen who then typed them in, often this had to be done under fire. Sometimes mistakes got made. A data link system, which would have allowed the entire process from laser ranging on the target to the data reaching the bomb guidance unit to be done without the need to speak a single coordinate at any point was had been developed, but funding had been denied under Clinton.

The same camapign also nearly totally exhausted Air force stocks of PGM's, stockpiles which Clinton had badly depleted with Desert Fox and Allied force and other useless campaigns and not done a thing to replace.

Had there been another contingency, and the US military is suppose to be able to handle three at a time, we'd have been stuck dropping bathtubs as both Iron and PGM bomb stocks would have been gone. Hell action against Iraq was delayed in large part because the weapons simply didn't exist to do the job.

and it WAS the end of the Cold War.

At the end of the Cold War very detailed plans where drawn up about what the new US force structure should be, what bases should close and what units disband to cut costs and yet leave a military able to meet existing and projected missions. The whole process had already began under Bush senior. Then Clinton came along and promptly had a large number of additional units, entire divisions, air wings, one CVBG all added to the list without any consideration of the impact. Then he went on to use what was left at a high operations tempo for eight years and with a budget that didn't even meet unit's peacetime requirements. And then when the bill for all that started adding up, his solution was to have units pay for it out of existing funds. Well that didn't work so he started canceling programs, notably the XM-8 light tank which was about to enter production.

Yes, I have also heard that the slashes to the F-22 production run have remained relatively untouched since Clinton cut the program during his administration. It does make you wonder why we are spending money on this ridiculous, inflammetory SDI system when we need to be spending more money on conventional weapons.

I would say that although I do believe that Clinton went overboard on some of his defense cuts, the general belief after the end of the Cold War was that a large scale demilitirization was necessary given the reduced threat of war.

Of course people realized later that we needed our forces for other purposes, but I still believe that a smaller and more technologically advanced force is paramount. We've already reduced our nuclear weapons stockpile, now we need to spend money modernizing our forces with new weapons like the new CVN, the Seawolf, a successor to the Tomahawk, F-22's, F-35's and projects like the solid-state laser design. We are still the most technologically advanced country and what engagements like Iraq have proven is that in the modern era, a technologically superior army will prevail. We still don't have a great deal of competition in this relm (I'd really love to see a single plane, or even five planes that can compete with the F-22).

So clinton cuts funding to the military and goes on a series of wars, doing major dammage to the military's fighting ability in the process. So bush increases funding to the military but makes sure it's all spent on bass ackwards projects like that dumbass missle defense system that an extremely low success rate even in the controlled test where the operators knew where the missles were coming from, when they were firing and what type of missle it would be for months in advance of the test thus ruining foriegn relations through broken treaties and not making a noticable defense improvement while squnadering money that should've been used to fix clinton's idiotic mistakes in military handeling. At this rate the next president will just disband the military, put all the defense budjet in cargo ships and keep one or two navy boats around to sink the cargo ships.

Really??

IIRC, Michael Moore has (or used to have) a TV show called The Awful Truth.

The question from the left should be Why are they so popular?

or is the answer going to always be 20 million mind numbed robots ??

Because there's NO ALTERNATIVE. AM talk radio is a conservative wasteland - there are NO nationally-syndicated liberal AM radio programs, and haven't been since the GOP killed the Fairness Doctrine. You can talk all you want about a "liberal media bias," but radio and increasingly television are becoming conservative-only bastions (when the only "liberal" voice on op-ed television is Alan Strawman, I mean Colmes, something's really fucking fishy here).

The media won't give liberals a chance to be popular - when liberal commentators are allowed on television at ALL, they're usually either put opposite much louder and more aggressive conservatives (Hannity & Colmes) or given a crappy time slot that constantly changes (Phil Donahue).

To make matters worse.. The left has to go out and BUY radio stations to start the Central Air network up and running..

as a Capitalist it makes me think that no one actually wants that product... :)
