Which is something, IMO, that the Star Wars franchise has been far too long without.Lagmonster wrote:People should try not to forget that Republic Commando is coming out in a short bit too, and is promising gritty and 'realistic' Clone Wars squad-based FPS action.Drooling Iguana wrote:Great. I don't care unless it equals Ghost Recon levels of uber realism, pertaining
to the SW Source material in the WEG sourcebooks.

Shep and I agree on what would make a perfect SW game.MKSheppard wrote:I don't care unless it equals Ghost Recon levels of uber realism, pertaining

WEG Jedi are mind blowingly powerful. The pissant, penny-ante shit from WOTC wouldn't slow down a Darksider built from WEG.

Uh, you can in Jedi AcademyMKSheppard wrote:...just show us a E-WEB emplacement

Specifically in the Echo Base level, you can kill tons of snowtroopers and at least 1 AT-ST with the several E-Webs lying around.

What? Excuse me, have you played any FPS games that allow you to be a part of the main Imperial assault on Hoth? Sitting in the cockpit of an AT-AT, no less?Spanky The Dolphin wrote:I can guarentee one thing it definately will have:
Hoth level. AGAIN...
Hoth is badass, and I will be disappointed if there isn't a 'Hoth assault' map.

Oh, that shit. Sorry, I forgot about that (probably because it's so boring). Yeah, if we have to do the lameass 'fly circles around the AT-AT' manuever, I'll bet cash a lot of servers have to enforce team balancing on that map as everyone wants to play the Imperials.
Of course, I think for proper gameplay there'd have to be force tweaking for that scenario, so that the Rebel soldiers in the trenches are doing more than just shooting futilely at the AT-ATs and then running away from the AT-ATs.

Or it could be a mission where you as a rebel, with others, have to hold back wave after wave of snowtroopers in the base as you're covering the retreat of the Rebel Command.
And as the Imperials you have to breach the base and take out the commanders before they get away.
Unless it has to exactly follow the movie.

If they have an ounce of brains, they'll throw movie canon to the dogs and have it so that Rebel soldiers wield Mer-Sonn rocket launchers capable of reducing AT-ATs to slag in six or so rounds.
I say this not because I think it's a good idea, but because no one on earth will play the level as the side that's going to get stepped on by invulnerable war machines.
Thinking more critically about it though in terms of game design...I'd put up a stiff wager that, following Lucasarts Star Wars FPS tradition, the largest Imperial land machine they'll offer is the AT-ST, for play balance reasons. Or they'll neuter the AT-AT and make it an anti-aircraft-equipped transport with about as much impact on the battlefield as a huge steel box equipped with a BB gun being pushed by mules.

We'll just have to wait and see. I really hope that the piloting parts for the game will be done decently or it will suck donkey balls big time. The best solution for piloting IMHO would be a good mix of realism and arcadish styles. That way piloting would require skill to do well while it wouldnt be weeks long venture just to learn how to get an X-Wing up to the sky and the slightest mistake wouldnt kill you.
Personally i cant get myself to care that much about the Empire/Rebellion parts of Battlefront. Sure they will propably be quite cool but right now im simply too much addicted to Clonetroopers and their equipment I hope that they will implement ARC Troopers to Battlefront along with all the things we love in the Clonetroopers.

Personally, I predict that in the chance that it doesn't just plain suck, it'll for the most part be a pretty big disappointment for most of us.
I bet it'll totally lack at least half of what we'd like it to so it's at least playable and reasonably realistic. Again, I at least hope that it'll allow for modding and non-commercial add-ons...

Sorry about the necromancy, but according to the mods, it's all right if you contribute something major.
This game is officially confirmed.
And yes, it will have another fucking Hoth level. Argh!!

From Lucasarts:
"The battles themselves will be set in more than 15 different environments on 10 different planets, including Hoth, Geonosis, Yavin, Tatooine, and Naboo. Players will be able to fight on behalf of the Rebel Alliance, the Imperial Army, the Clone Army, or the Droid Army, and they will be able to choose one from more than 20 different soldier types, each with different abilities. Ground-based turrets will be available for players to use, as well as a number of vehicles, including AT-ST walkers, X-Wing fighters, and speeder bikes. The game's "conquest" mode will also award bonus abilities--for use in future battles--to the winning team at the end of each conflict."
I like the idea as playing the Droid army, strangely. Make me a Hailfire and let'er roll, baby! Those clones won't know what hit them.
