Rush Limbaugh and the Liberal Conspiracy

Post by The Kernel »

Yahoo News
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Investigators who raided the offices of Rush Limbaugh's doctors said in search warrants filed Thursday that the conservative radio commentator engaged in illegal drug use and "doctor shopping" for prescription painkillers.

The warrants — which name four doctors and several prescription drugs — show investigators were looking for records including prescription disbursements, appointment schedules, receipts and a medical questionnaire when they raided the offices Nov. 25.

"Mr. Limbaugh's actions violate the letter, and spirit" of the law that relates to doctor shopping, stated one of warrants, signed by Asim Brown, a law enforcement agent assigned to the state attorney's office anti-money laundering task force. Doctor shopping refers to looking for a doctor willing to prescribe drugs illegally.

Limbaugh denied any wrongdoing to listeners on his radio show earlier Thursday and accused prosecutors in Palm Beach County of going on a "fishing expedition."

Reading from a statement prepared by his attorney Roy Black, Limbaugh denied any wrongdoing and said the medical records will clear him.

"What these records show is that Mr. Limbaugh suffered extreme pain and had legitimate reasons for taking pain medication," Limbaugh said. "Unfortunately, because of Mr. Limbaugh's prominence and well-known political opinions, he is being subjected to an invasion of privacy no citizen of this republic should endure."

State Attorney Barry Krischer said in a statement that Limbaugh's rights have been "scrupulously protected."

"Whether Mr. Limbaugh is subject to prosecution for any crimes is still under investigation. Mr. Limbaugh is presumed innocent," Krischer said.

The search warrants were filed at Palm Beach County Circuit Court. One was executed at Palm Beach Ear, Nose and Throat Association in Palm Beach Gardens, where investigators seized five months of records from a Palm Beach pharmacy that they say support the doctor-shopping allegations.

Two warrants were executed at the offices of Jupiter Outpatient Surgery Center. Information on the fourth warrant wasn't immediately available.

The records seized include prescriptions for Norco, Niacin, OxyContin, Xanax, Lorcet and other medications. The physicians named in the warrants are Dr. Nathaniel Drourr, Dr. Antonio De La Cruz, Dr. Lawrence Deziel and Dr. John Murray.

Drourr and officials at both centers declined comment, citing privacy laws. Murray did not return a phone call seeking comment, and the other doctors could not be immediately reached.

Limbaugh was absent from his show for five weeks recently while spending time at a drug rehabilitation program because of his addiction to prescription painkillers.

Previously, law enforcement sources in Palm Beach County, where Limbaugh owns a $24 million oceanfront mansion, confirmed that a criminal investigation into a prescription drug ring involved Limbaugh. His former maid, Wilma Cline, reported supplying him with OxyContin and other painkillers.

Last month, a law enforcement source who spoke on condition of anonymity said authorities also were investigating whether Limbaugh illegally funneled money to buy prescription painkillers. The radio host responded with a blanket denial of the allegations during his third day back on the air.
Leaving aside the hypocricy of all this for a sec, Rush now aparently thinks there is some liberal conspiracy out to get him because of his political views. Riiiight Rush...

This has much more to do with prosecuters showing that they aren't going to go easy on the upper class whites for violating drug laws that would land a lower class black person behind bars. Not everyone has the money to go to a vacation spa for five weeks to kick their drug habit Rush. No one is out to get you for being a right-wing, elitist, racist nut, they are out to get you because you broke the law and they want to make an example of you. The fact that Limbaugh regularly belittled drug addicts on his radio show is just a nice piece of poetic justice.

Do I think this is right? Making an example of someone might never be right, but I don't think I'll shed any tears for this asshole. You made your bed Rush, now lie in it you racist motherfucker.

Well, of course they're trying to make an example of him. That's why he was turned in by his supplier in the first place. Not that they shouldn't be doing so.

Is Rush seriously claiming that this is part of a liberal conspiracy against him?
"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

Read the article. His lawyer claims that "because of Mr. Limbaugh's prominence and well-known political opinions, he is being subjected to an invasion of privacy no citizen of this republic should endure."

It occurs to me that maybe someone should ask him what he would have said if it had been Clinton in this situation instead of him...

His drug habits are being investigated with warrants, and the lawyer pulls this bullshit?

Of course. Translated it means that because Limbaugh is a rich white man, he shouldn't be subjected to a legal search and investigation. Classic classist, racist bullshit. It really makes me wonder how this pig fucker is able to strike such a chord with the lower class.

...how does that make his lawyer's statement racist? And are you denying that, unfortunately, there are several poor blacks that are addicted to drugs?

No of course not. Alright, seeing as how its a third-party statement, I'll let him go on the racist charge, but he still gets the elitist charge. :D

Unfortunatly, statistically, poor blacks are more likely to be drug addicts... This has nothi... actually it has everything to do wth race, but not that one rce is "better" but rather, the African American community is sort of stuck in this economic hole that they cant escape from for some reason*cough*segregation until 40 years ago*cough*

Yes, but plenty of white people do drugs too. It's just the poorer black people that get caught.

Ever been to Aspen, Colorado? I lived there for three years. Everyone there does coke so far as I know. I know a guy that got caught on the street with SIX GRAMS of cocaine in his jacket and the Aspen police let him go and even let him KEEP THE COKE. Can you imagine the LAPD in South Central being so generous?

The majority of illegal drugs and the overwhelming majority of illegally used perscription drugs are consumed by middle and uppper class whites. The overwhelming majority of drug offenders in prison are poor minorities. I don't like playing the race card, but in this case, the conclusion that American drug policy is racist is inescapable. Frankly, it has to be, because if the drug warriors started going after middle class whites, the public would be screaming for drug law reform. Prohibition only ever survives when the majority is not personally inconvenienced by it.

last time I checked, 80% of the prison population, are in for non-violent drug offences. We really should be screaming for drug law reform anyway, because that is fucking bullshit. To place a harmless casual coke user in te same cell as a murder/rapist is a travesty. All we are doing is increasing societies problems by creating more criminals.

Of course, all of this is more important than the minor detail that he is a junkie, hence there is a concrete reason to investigate him. Not to mention the fact that the particular drug he was taking was essentially pharmaceutical-grade heroin.

I missed the part where Rush called it a Liberal Conspiracy. Can someone quote it for me? All this reading-between-the-lines stuff doesn't seem very... informed.

Oh, puh-lease.
Rush Limbaugh, speaking from a prepared statement wrote:"Unfortunately, because of Mr. Limbaugh's prominence and well-known political opinions, he is being subjected to an invasion of privacy no citizen of this republic should endure."
In short, he is accusing the police of invading his privacy because he's a conservative (note that this is the same clown who historically had no problem with much greater impositions upon drug users of the lower socio-economic classes). The fact that he doesn't use the exact phrase "liberal conspiracy" is irrelevant.
