Post by Knife »

As the title say's. It's Christmas. What's your favorite Carol? I know its been done before, but the board is different then it was a year ago, complete with new people. :D

Mine is easy. Carol of the Bells. Secular, no mention of christ. Catchy tune and (Zaia what the hell is the name for a complete choir song?) only sung by choir with no musical insterments. Totally awesome (original meaning) IMNSHO.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

Well, I hate to be "that guy" who says, "me too," but Carol of the Bells owns all.

Disclaimer. All the musical and new age keyboard versions do NOT own all. Only bonifide choir versions are the bomb. :D

Again a question to Zia, what the hell is a all choir called. A accapella? Or something close? :?

Carol of the Bells. Choir version first, Trans-Siberian Orchestra version second.

Holly and the Ivy, or Silent Night, I don't mind Christian songs, hell, it is in theory a Christian holiday, but in our family, it's more of an excuse to spend time together and do cool family stuff.

I'm not into caroling unless I get lots of free stuff and get to annoy the rich neighbors.
What do you think they did during Christmas in the 1800's?

I have to agree with HemlockGrey here, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra version is pretty cool too.

Also, accapella is the term for a choir without instruments.

You know, I don't think I've ever heard the Trans-Siberian Orchestra version?!?! Still, my decision stands.......

My version, on CD anyway, is the Boston Choir. It took the purchase of around eight CD's to find one with a choir. They say it's the Carol of the Bells but it's usually the instramental version.

P.S. Thanks, I knew it was Acapello (sp?) or something close to that but I also thought that acapello refered to islands? My brain is deadlocked on the issue at the moment.

A cappella is the term you're looking for--you were on the right track all along, sweetness! As was baelfire1945, it seems. Oh, and the island you're thinking of is Acupulco.

As for my favourite carol, does it have to be the kind you sing in a group? 'Cause I used to do a solo of "What Child is This?" when I would go caroling that isn't your typical, upbeat group tune, but just me by myself (me a cappella, if you will :P ).

If that doesn't count, then I think my favourite carol would have to be..I don't know. "Silent Night," maybe? I honestly don't mind the godifulness of the songs if they're pretty. I'm such a music whore.

OH! And "Ave Maria," if that counts.

Ahhh, A-Cappella! Instead of Acappella! Ok, thats why I defer to the experts. :P

I'm worldly enough to know it wasn't Acupulco, though I thought of going there next year but the wife likes cold places, but thanks.......

Any Carol does. If you like solo's, fine by me. I just am a sucker for the power of a dozen or more human voices combined into a melody. *fazes out for a moment to 'Bonney Portmore'* Ok, if there is some instraments in it, I can cope.

Religeon is NOT me. But my second fav Carol is probably 'Little Drummer Boy' Ba-ra-ba-bum-bum.

Does it have to be a carol? My favourite Christmas song in general is "Stop the Cavalry".

"God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" and "Ukranian Bell Carol" (commonly referred to as "The Carol of the Bells").

[EDIT] And yes, I do like the instrumental versions of CotB. The choral version owns all, followed by the TSO version, but I will always have a personal preference towards instrumental, having played it, and had a solo in doing so.

Probably Jingle Bells, the rest are too solemn.

Christmas at Ground Zero by Weird Al isn't too bad. :D

Just for breathing in the air they wanna leave me in the chair
Electric shocking body rocking beat streeting me to death"

Christmas at Ground Zero by Weird AL is perfect.

Deck the halls with gasoline,
Fa la la la la, la la la la..

Light a match and watch it gleam,
Fa la la la la, la la la la..

Burn the house right down to ashes,
Fa la la, la la la, la la la..

Unfortunately I forget the last line.. _ _;;
