Well the moment is finally here: GT vs UGA.

UGA is riding high with a win over Kentucky, and are most likely to take GT seriously after GT's performances, and because thier SEC hopes depend on this victory.

GT after having a chance to break into the Top 25 ranks, has dropped the ball against Dook, which now leaves us in the possibility of the Humanitarian bowl if we don't beat UGA, or if Pittsburgh doesn't beat Miami.

Whatever new schemes Tenuta has the Tech defense using, need to be dropped. The dominating defense hasn't been present since Dook. Where has it gone?

That said, the Tech defense will be the key factor in whether we beat Georgia. If it shows up, we can force UGA into the same situation as FSU.

If it doesn't then we will still be able to hold UGA down, but we can't expect any better result than last weeks loss to UVA.

Despite, the disapointing final stretch of games against meager opponents, I think this Tech team has a shot if it shows up, and plays the level it played against Auburn and UMD.

And fortunately, PJ Daniels is listed as 'probable' for the game.

This will be my last GaTech home game as a student, and my second time being present at a UGA game (I missed the 1999 home game). As long as my jackets play thier hearts out for 60 minutes, I will leave Bobby Dodd Stadium satisfied.

Following this up, can Pittsburgh beat Miami?

They seemed to do a pretty good job against VaTech, but they lost to West Virginia.

What weapons does Pitt have to use against the Canes other than Larry Fitzgerald?

Bah, it's Big East, who cares. The conference will fade into obscurity next year.

I say Pitt takes it.

I say Notre Dame should join the Big East next year, then it can dominate everyone else.

I hope Pitt takes it. Everyone would rather see Virginia Tech vs Georgia Tech, than Georgia Tech vs Boise State or UVA vs Pitt.

Plus VT is a team we actually have a good chance of beating, while Boise's offense makes Boise a much more difficult dog to take down. Plus it's in snowy Idaho.

Another question about the big East. What happens to thier bowl bids after Miami and VT come to the ACC. Wouldn't the ACC have to get more Bowls contracted to accomodate the expanded league?

Personally I want the ACC to get a bowl against the Big Ten.

ND blows. Pitt's the most likely to dominate the Big East after Miami and VaTech are gone, in my opinion.

Notre Dame needs to remain a independant for a few more years at least. Hopefully in that time they will continue to suck and NBC will be eating it for giving them that TV contract that ruined college football tv for so many years.

It's only lately when ND has been getting spanked by lots of teams that I've been able to enjoy it again.

Still wish Navy would have beat them though. :(

Really I'm mostly cheezed at ND because several years ago the decided to stay independent instead of joining the Big 10. It was supposedly all about the money. By being alone they don't have to share any of their bowl winnings etc... So, I've been really enjoying the years when Michigan, Michigan State, and Purdue all beat ND. :D

It's the whole "backyard Brawl" thing Pitt and WVU have had going for decades. WVU always works harder to win that game... it's a matter of Pride.

Especially since WVU is mostly Pennsylvanian anyway...

UNA Lions Roar!

Post by jegs2 »

Carson Newman was supposed to be a challenge, but the North Alabama Lions picked them apart by a score of 41 to 9. UNA can all but taste their fourth National Championship, but now they will face North Dakota in the semifinals, which beat Winona State today.

Meanwhile, both Tennessee and Georgia beat their respective opponents, while Florida is giving up points to Florida State, thanks to three bad calls by the ACC officials.

Miami will face stiff competition tonight in weather that's colder than they like. They will find the Volunteers gunning for their victory for Strength of Schedule purposes...

I'm not a huge fan of college ball, but I have to say that I found LSU vs Arkansas to be one of the funniest games I've ever watched. When I stopped watching, it was 4th quarter, Arkansas 17, LSU 55

Well Georgia wins it's 3rd straight in what the Atlanta Journal Constitution has called the Red Clay Rumble. Congrats to the Bulldawgs on thier victory.

Despite the 34-17 loss, I'm proud that my Yellow Jackets played hard up until the final moments. But I'm also upset that our mistakes in the first 10 minutes cost us the game, if it wasn't for those, things could've been different.

I was acutally impressed with A.J. Suggs quarterbacking, he seemed a lot more comfortable throwing downfield than Ball, and despite the very unsupportive behaviour of our fans, played to the final minutes in an attempt to beat Georgia. Would we have won with Ball? Who knows, Suggs two interceptions both cost us, but the boos from our crowd were unwarranted considering that he didn't play a snap since last December.

I'm just glad that the Jackets put up a good fight, and I'll leave it at that.

Er.... nevermind.

Thanks to absolutely horrible officiating, FSU was handed the game today, as the officials raped Florida. Bama's having a tough go at it against Hawaii...

Winona State took a rough defeat in the second round, going down 36-24 to the 1st-seeded University of North Dakota.

Bama Playing with no heart

Post by jegs2 »

Ever since their loss to Oklahoma, Bama seems to have just given up. One can see it in their level of play. Tonight, they came out strong against Hawaii but then just gave up. Hawaii deserved to win this game. The Tide just needs to concentrate on next year, for this one is a complete and forgettable wash...

That's how it goes with SEC officiating, Florida was handed the Arkansas game in much the same way.
Would we have won with Ball? Who knows, Suggs two interceptions both cost us, but the boos from our crowd were unwarranted considering that he didn't play a snap since last December.
He would have just been injured later on, probably even worse. A freshman quarterback doesn't need to be scrambling around on the same field as Odell Thurman too much, for his own health most of all. Not to mention his behavior was absolutely disgusting today.

But at least Tech gave us a game, the linebackers were particularly good.

In any case, it looks like my boys will be representing the SEC East in the SECCG this year...just gotta beat LSU now...

Considering all that the team has had to go through this year mainly because of the coaching problems I can kind of see how players would have a lot of difficulty staying motivated. I'd be a little concerned about your coach having what it takes if the players on a team like 'Bama can't stay motivated through a game.

It'll be interesting to see if this is something the coach (Shula?) can deal with. It might be different when more of the players are those he recruited but I'm a little wary since his past head coaching stint didn't go that well.

jegs, Bama is the only team I can think of that actually gave Oklahoma a real game this year, and as we all know Oklahoma is playing on a different level than everyone else in the country. So that's definitely an accomplishment not to be lightly brushed aside.

But at least Tech gave us a game, the linebackers were particularly good.
And for that I'm proud of our team, but unfortunately we are loosing a s**tload of linebackers to graduation this year. I don't know how many we currently have on the roster to replace them. If we do, then our defense can be a top in the country.

If defense stays as good as it's been this year, then the goal of spring practice will need to be overhauling the offense, now that Reggie Ball is a sophomore.

I want to beat either Miami, VT, or UGA next year.

Even if we loose all those, we can still be 8-3 (NCAA goes back to 11 game schedules next year) if we can avoid the sloppiness that lead to inexcusable defeats to beatable opponents like Dook and Clumpson.

The more I think about it, the more upset I get, purely because of discipline we lost games that we should've won. If we had beaten Dook, we wouldn't even have to be worrying about Boise Idaho.

North Alabama out of the hunt

Post by jegs2 »

UNA finally lost a football game:

North Alabama (13-0) 22 Final
North Dakota (11-1) 29

North Dakota will face Grand Valley State in the Division II championship game next week. On the bright side, since I'd have been in the field during the game anyway, I won't have to miss seeing UNA play on ESPN...

How nice... WVU is in the Gator Bowl. Again.

Wonder how bad the loss will be *this* time....?

Congratulations to LSU on a helluva game. If y'all aren't in the national championship, the system's fucked up.

As for me, I've been at it since 5 AM, and am about to cough up a fucking lung, so I'll hit the hay soon. I'm saddened not so much by the loss as I am by the fact that we really didn't come with our A game. Or our B game. Or our C game. That's not to take away from LSU, they're the real deal and probably would've beaten us even if we were at our best, but at least we would have given them a better game. Oh well, it's a rebuilding year, the O-line is extremely young, and we should be 8-4, not playing in the SECCG. But we did, and the program's in great shape with incredible potential. GO DAWGS!

Now I have to focus on getting a C in Accounting. Joy.

OKLAHOMA LOSES! Kansas State delivers a brutal unlubricated assfucking to the nations top collegiate team!

Now there's three one loss teams with a substantial claim to the title. Oy Vey.

I want to see USC vs. LSU, USC because they're my team (1A), and LSU because I don't liek Oklahoma.

So who's playing who and when? At 5:30 ET tomorrow we will find out.

ESPN had a bunch of predictions but those apparently have been pulled in the few hours since Oklahoma screwed the pooch.

What's even funnier is that K State's win keeps Texas out of a BCS bowl because K State gets the automatic bid and Oklahoma is still going to be rated higher than Texas. No conference can send more than two teams to BCS bowls. It don't get much better than that. Screwing two teams with one win that gives your team it's first Big 12 championship. :D

I enjoyed the Army/Navy game (especially since Navy won). It was kind of nice to see the ol' Triple Option working. There's just something about a team taking to another team almost exclusively by the run. In the second half Navy was really pounding it every which way.
