Is herbalife healthy?

Post by Darth-Garfield »

A friend of mine just told me he's doing some sort of diet from herbalife.
He's replacing one or two meals a day with some sort of shake.
It doesn't sound to healthy to me to replace a full meal with a few spoons of powder in a glass of milk. I've been lurking here for some time now and a while back there was a discussion about the Atkins diet here, but has anyone got experience with this herbalife stuff?

I don't know about herbalife but I do know a little about some of the meal replacement drinks. Shakes, such as Slim Fast, are excellent for people who want to lose weight. They are high in protein and supply many nutrients that are good for the body. Now, they are supposed to be PART of the diet, not THE diet. You use them to supplement the diet you are on.

Since I am a body builder, I often use Slim Fast in my protein shakes because they are very good.

Oh, one last thing: Many weight loss diets require many smaller meals throughout the day, not three big ones. I eat 6 smaller meals every day. Replacing one or even two with protein and meal replacement shakes is perfectly fine.

Eh. No wonder I haven't heard of it. Tell him that anything by Weider is probably okay, and that Slim Fast is good. You can get Slim Fast at Wal Mart for pretty cheap too.

I don't know what herbalife is, but let me repeat. Diet shakes are not meant to replace meals!!!!!

They're meant to supplement your diet with nutrients, so that you can absorb nutrients faster in a liquid form. despite what ads say, the only use for shakes like this in a losing weight programme should be to supplement your bland foods with nutrients in a tasty, easily absorbed form, especially if you're heavily exercising.

Alternatively, diet shakes are a good way to replenish used salts and protein since exercise is an appetite supressant.

Replace all meals with delicious Fried Bacon and Butter Sandwiches covered in Gravy. Serve with Sour Cream and a side of Chocolate Pie (at least half of said pie will suffice)

Considering the very thought of that makes me want to puke, that would make a good slimming solution.

Interesting article, he mentioned he was planning to start selling it in januari after his exams. I'm afraid that wont be to good for his results at the end of the year.

eh. that's not exactly healthy. . . .while it might help take the weight off, it won't necessarily help keep it off. the only way he's going to get anything out of that diet is if he goes back to regular meals when he's hit his target weight and exercises regularly to keep in shape. exercise is alot better for you then some slimfast diet.

Does he has an exercise programme? Furthermore, this won't supress his hunger, unless he has some snacking by the side, which in our world means too much sugar, fat and cream stuffed inside us.

I often use SlimFast as a meal replacement, While I've never tried sticking to 'the plan' (which includes two shakes and three ultra lo-cal snacks with a real meal), I can vouch that they do fill you up as much as a small meal, and are great if you're in a hurry or are two cheap to buy lunch (as a can of shake is only 75p, and most sandwiches in the college shop are over a pound). I'm not trying to lose weight, but I really don't want to put anymore on (and yes, I do work out)

I've also seen the diet work for my flatmate. While major dietery overhauls are needed to keep in shape, it's good for effective weight loss while staying healthy.

Nice individual selections, combined to make one arse backward meal.
