USS Wasp:

Displacement: 40,530 tons full load
Dimensions: 844 x 140 x 26.5 feet
~35-40 helicopters and VSTOL
Troops: 1,893

You're incorrect on Ranger being a name currently used.

LHD 1 Wasp
LHD 2 Essex
LHD 3 Kearsarge
LHD 4 Boxer
LHD 5 Bataan
LHD 6 Bonhomme Richard
LHD 7 Iwo Jima

Now for a look at European Carriers

Charles De Gaulle CVN:
Displacement: 41,000 tons full load
858 x 211 x 28 feet

Invincible class CVH:
Displacement: 20,600 tons full load
Dimensions: 689 x 118 x 29 feet
20 VSTOL and helicopters

Awww, look at the pathetic euros, we should reclass our LHAs as
CVLs to rub it in

Not even with the related Tarawa class? Hopefully the Navy will soon rectify that oversight.

'Twould be fitting, although our LHAs are capable of embarking troops and small landing craft from a stern well dock which the European CVHs cannot do. The basic design for our LHAs would make a good basis for a proper CVL —which may be the pattern for the future if supercarriers become too expensive.

The Wasp can carry 20 STOVL aircraft and 6 ASW helicopters in its Sea Control configuration.

Ranger may be assigned to LHD(R), the follow-on to the Wasp, or it may be assigned to one of the new carriers.

As an aside, one proposal for LHD(R) puts it in the 70 kton range for displacement(!)

The name Ranger is on a vessel which remains on the Naval Vessels Register in reserve (CV 61, Forrestal-class). Same with Independence (CV 62, Forrestal-class).
