You know what, say what you will about the old one, that the effects were dated, blah blah, but damn if the battles weren't always BIG. Raiders would fill the starry skies and Vipers would be swarming around the waves of attacking raiders.

What do we get here, one or two at a time launching nukes like they were giving them away for free. UGH.
Yeah, I know I'm a tad late but I was quite busy the last two days. I'm suprised I found the time to watch the show at all. Anyway...

That isn't entirely true. There was only one piece of stock footage that involved Vipers and Raiders "swarming" around as you describe and it involved roughly ten fighters total. It's a pretty crappy piece, too. Laser shots are a bit odd and turbo glows aren't aligned properly.

---

I'm not going to list all my likes/dislikes because my list basically matches Periquinnus' (sp?) earlier in the thread. I liked the inclusion of many old designs in the Rag-tag Fleet (tm). I counted 2 Colonial Movers, one Gemeni Freighter, a prison barge, an unnamed design from the original show, and the stern of a Celestra. The Celestra is hard to see so look for a bright rectangular engine set inside a cylinder.

The EMP burned out the warheads so the missiles never went off, however why the hell would the Cylons go away unless a nuclear blast was what they were expecting to see?

I think so. I'll pay more attention during one of the many re-runs.

I saw the original guy that played Boomer at a comic con a few months back. He was sitting at a table alone, waiting for someone to get an 8x10 picture signed. No one stopped, not even me.

What was really sad was, he was sitting next to the guy that played Dr. Zaius on the Apes tv show. When I left for the day, Boomer was standing outside the auditorium taking a smoke break, unnoticed, and alone... =sniff=

On the 21st, there's another comic con at the Shrine Hall in L.A. having to do with "Firefly" Maybe old Boomer will be there, and I'll grab an autograph!
 poor Boomer.

You reminded me I wanted to comment on that post. :( In the little remembering BSG thing that came with my DVDs, along with commentary on the pilot, he sounded so proud of his role in the show. It's such a shame to hear that he isn't appreciated. I hope you get that pic from him, Poe; I hear he likes to do conventions. :)

I just remembered something, there was an old Cylon long(?)sword on the wall in Adama's quarters. :D

Question. Who gave Adama the note at the end, saying that there were only tweleve model's of Cylon's?

Looks like half are taken up already. If you count the original, as seen in the museum, the four infiltrators, the tincan with guns, and hell even the fighter should count as one if it is a sentient robot fighter. Thats seven out of the twelve.

I think what they mean is that there are only 12 models of Infiltrators. When Baltar asks #6 how many of her there was she responded 12.

Baltar's the only one who knew.

I think they meant 12 human-like models.

What seriously pissed me off was that the explosive battles of the original were GONE.

What true BSG fan doesn't remember the Atlantia going up in flames during the first episode? Or the Pegasus forcing its way through Baltar's blackade at Gamoray? Who could ever forget the sheer volume of Raiders swarming out of a single Basestar to engage Galactica's own healthy dose of Vipers?

'New' BSG it struck me as being seriously minimalist when compared to the original. I mean, we hear a blurb about the Atlantia being destroyed and that's it?! BULLSHIT! I hated it.

I'm rewatching the original on DVD and I have to say it is superior storytelling wise to the remake. The effects are dated for sure but not bad in the sense that we see strings or any crap like that.

I particualrly enjoy the Apollo Adama relationship. I'm not a fan of the dysfunctiuonal family of the week stroylines to generate false drama like we saw in the remake. Here was a loving father and son and Adama was a perfect father figure. You had to love him.

One of my favorite Adama lines so far that I've seen:

"Father, maybe she wasn't here " About Apollo's mother in Adama's home.

Adama looks around the ruined home and with such emotion he says: "She was here...she was here."

I thought back to pineapple faced Edward James Olmos and just shook my head.

Well, that's Ron Moore, isn't it? Same bullshit as he and Ira Steven Behr pulled with the Dominion War storyline on Deep Sleep Nine —using the war as mere backdrop and showing as little of the actual fighting action as possible so as not to intrude upon the character soap opera.

*bites back obscene comment about her "position" and why Adama seems to know her first name*

Well, coming from someone who hasn't seen the old series in any real depth, I happened to like it. I read all the stories about it, and the one theme seems true; they're not trying to be the original. So, when I hear negative reviews about people bitching and moaning about how the original had this, and the new one doesn't, I don't give a shit.

So, seeing it without any preconcieved notions of how Battlestar Galactica "should" be, my review is mostly like Perrin's (I can't recall how to spell it out, nor am I gonna go back five pages to find it) review. Basically, I found it enjoyable. It was incredibly slow, and I missed any attempt at a decent soundtrack (with the exception of a few really cool moments). I would've liked a more enlarged view of the battles, but this isn't the disaster some make it out to be. I thought the Galactica herself kicked some ass; out of the hordes of missiles I saw fired, only about four or five hit that I recall. Not too bad. It seems they have a mix of old and new Vipers, which is pretty cool. And I like the Galactica herself, because it seems like a good ol' Naval ship, complete with the nifty Navy-speak, except for the fact that a Colonel is the XO. *shrug*

All in all, if they're making a series out of it, I'd definately watch and give it a shot. This miniseries was pretty good, IMO, and certainly leaves me wanting a series to follow.

Oh, and I agree with Knife. Number Six should be naked. All the way. :D

Even with restrictive budgets, it still should be possible to paint a fairly good portrait of people at war reacting to a wartime situation, with their every thought and action being driven to one degree or the other by the war. It's pretty sad that the DS9 clown crew were far less competent at doing that sort of job than the writers of Hogan's Heroes managed.

Love how they had to include that retarded ship transformation crap for the Galactica.

That's Ron Moore's patented crybaby bullshit excuse whenever anybody calls him on his fucking lethargic or halfassed battles. He tried to claim that with Generations, but that movie had a bigger budget than Wrath of Khan and had the advantage of more advanced computer technology, so I don't trust any such claims from the likes of him any more.

I had no idea about Generations, JESUS. How do you have a bigger budget than WOK and come up with the lamest Trek movie battle I've ever seen??

Her body leave something to be desired for me, personally. She's too thin and bony: needs a little more fat to even her out and define her curves.
