Some help with math
How do I calculate the volume of a sphere if I know it's diameter or radius?
And how do I calculate the energy required for vaporization of such an amount(let's say 1m^3) of... say iron?

Yes thanks, now could you explain that to me?Colonel Olrik wrote:4/3*pi*r^3His Divine Shadow wrote:How do I calculate the volume of a sphere if I know it's diameter or radius?
4/3 means what?
Pi is 3.14
R is radius
^3 is?

Re: Some help with math
Sorry.. r is the radius of the sphere, r^3 is the cubic power of the radius. His Divine Shadow wrote: Yes thanks, now could you explain that to me?
4/3 means what?
Pi is 3.14
R is radius
^3 is?
for example, 2^3=2*2*2=8
3^3=3*3*3=27
4^3=4*4*4
4/3 is 4:3=1.333
I'm a bit busy and there are lots of people with large experience in vaporization calculus, but if they don't respond I'll explain it to you tomorrow

4/3 . . . exactly that. Four thirds, or 1.25.His Divine Shadow wrote:Yes thanks, now could you explain that to me? :PColonel Olrik wrote:4/3*pi*r^3His Divine Shadow wrote:How do I calculate the volume of a sphere if I know it's diameter or radius?

^3 is?
R^3 = R * R * R

also. when he asked "what is it" I thought he was asking something different than mere values. You don't need to know those if you just plug those things into a calculator/computer, likewise the caret ^, the computer will understand that too. But anyway, the whole thing, "what is it" is what happens when you integrate the volume of the sphere from first principles, like say, by the disc method. Fun factoid, if you differentiate with respect to r, you get the surface area, 4pi*r^2. Analogous to circle area and circumference.

Canybody give me JUST the formula and not the actual explanation because I'm not a fucking genius?
Why don't you try looking this sort of thing up in books? That's what they're for, you know.

Yeah I know, but I was looking through this thread when I realized that I didn't know the formula for the surface area of a sphere, so I thought "what the hell" and replied with the question.Darth Wong wrote:Why don't you try looking this sort of thing up in books? So when I post the FORMULA but it's surrounded by a couple words that say what it is and a period, that's too much for you to handle? I feel for you, man. No I don't. Wong is right. There are these magical containers filled with knowledge all the way from beginner to advanced. You find them in the library, and you operate them by opening and looking inside. Maybe you should try opening one of these magical containers, called "books", before you bust out the swear words and curse us for the fact that you're not a genius just because we use a method called "writing", which is how "books" are made.

Going by this thread, I'd say that taking and actually understanding basic high school geometry and chemistry is a rarity.
For god's sake, people, take a math course.
