I just realized, this would make a really cool (crappy) movie.

By crappy I mean relatively plotless but fun and mayhem filled.

The whole point of it would be Mongols running amok in NYC chopping people's heads off then getting shot by massed small arms fire.
The entire movie would be like one huge 2-hour long "Helm's Deep" style running battle, with little-to-no pertinant dialogue, just chopping, slashing, shooting, and blowinguping.

AKA the perfect summer blockbuster. And by the time it comes out on DVD near christmas time, as Mike would say, it's the perfect holiday gift for your male significant other.

Actually, knowing most of the Khans and their preferred tactics, they set up camp in Times Square, most of the army goes off to bars and strip joints, and pay in gold coinage. While Ghengis and his Lieutenants go off to visit Bloomberg in city hall and strike a deal with him- whatever it might be, lodgings, mergers, control over a portion of the city. If that fails they pick up, ride off into the countryside, get about 3 times as many men as they have now and ride through the city causing mayhem, and sweep back out again.

I concur with Sea Skimmer.

Considering the amount of modern weapons and munitions in New York City, the number of police, security, and military personnel, and the total lack of Mongolian knowledge of the modern urban grid ... it's a rout.

If a horde of Mongols appeared in Times Square, it would probably lead to a hellacious traffic jam. Cops and emergency personnel would have a hell of a time getting into the area, so there will probably be a bloody mess of human and equine corpses and wrecked vehicles around Times Square when they arrive. A lot of police and soldiers will get killed on the way after the Mongols break out of the square and run into small groups of them who are still trying to reach the square.

The Mayor would probably block the tunnels and bridges leading into Manhattan to contain the horde. Sadly, the roadblocks will probaby be swamped by people looking to get out. The blocks could be rebuilt on the other side of the bridges and tunnels after the first wave of panic stops. Then the police, etc. in the other boroughs will have to deal with the increased number of people there, and try to send people into Manhattan to counterattack.

Meanwhile, the Mongols would split up and begin to loot and pillage. Locals would fortify their homes and businesses as best they can, and try to ride out the situation. The groups sent to retake the island would have to negotiate the mess of abandoned cars, wrecked buildings, fires and flooding the panic and the Mongols' subsequent actions caused to search every tunnel, street and building on the entire island to look for survivors and Mongols. Those groups would have only finite numbers and ammo and might inflict some damage on small isolated Mongol groups, but would either die or have to retreat eventually.

After several days, the Mongols would finish pillaging and assemble in one area, maybe sending patrols to look for food. If the blockade holds long enough, they could starve them out. However, that would kill a lot of locals too. Also, the Khan might mass his men and and attack one or two roadblocks to escape. After some more panic in the areas into which they break, the Mongols might simply ride out of the city. Manhattan will take a few years to repair, get the wreckage cleared, utilities and services back online, and buildings fixed.

This all assumes only NYC personnel are involved. If this happened for real, the state and federal governments as well as volunteers from all over the country would come to help.

Of course not, but it'll be enough to make a bigger impact than what was assumed.

Even if it's not one shot one kill, I think most officers have more than ten bullets.

No uniformed officer would have less then three magazines, one in the gun and two or sometimes three on the hip, and most US police forces use guns with magazine capacities well over 10 rounds. Anyone with a vehicle will also have a shotgun and or rifle in some cases with more ammunition for everything. Police stations will have more weapons and ammo, and then there's the old West Hollywood method, go to the local gun shop, ask for guns and ammunition, use guns and ammuntion to kill the criminals/murdering Mongol hoard.

I can just imagine what would happen if the mogol horde showed up in the San Francisco Business district., fuck they would get held off at China Town (Gangs are too well armed)

This has to be one of the highest 'funny potiental' threads I've seen in a while.

Just picturing in it makes me laugh

I mean, first, you'd have the mongols running lose
Then you have the cops and other armed people returning fire.

Someone would probably blame it on Al Qadia

You'd have people wiping things at the Mongols
And the mongols would see how half of new york dresses and think 'these people are freaks!'

Besides that, imagine the fun of driving a semi-truck down the middle of a mongol horder at 100 miles per hour

On topic: Yeah, the Mongols will take a fair amount of people with them, but the almighty power of the gun will eventually silence the Mongol Horde.
