It's possible that the fighting in Iraq may get worse - now that the threat of Saddam is out of the way, the Iraqis may decide to get rid of all foreign devils and foreign-installed local strongmen.

For now, it is to celebrate. But in the back of my mind, I worry that we may have just sown the wind.

I thought we caught Ted Kazinsky all over again when I saw the picture. He'll be tried for crimes against the Kurds, the Iraqis, and Iran committed between 1969 and 2003.

I wonder if they'll have an actual body count for his trial.

Now, a photo that warms me heart:

While it is true that is possible, I would think that the people other there would be less fundamentalist than that statement would assume.

My preferred outcome for this situation:

The Iraqi court finds him obviously guilty of war crimes and he is beheaded in the middle of the main square of Baghdad by an Iraqi executioner that lost someone in his regime to add poetic justice to the punishment. Then the populace will be more willing to work with coalition forces to stop the insurgents and hopefully welcome the Coalition forces' help with re-establishing their standard of living. Then if it becomes stable enough and we can stay on good terms with the populace we establish a few bases within their territory. Sort of like what we did in Europe and Japan when we did sort of the same thing for them.

His capture should be a good thing and hopefully their citizens will be more willing to realize that his regime is finally over.

Oh and Hammas is celebrating the ideals of Saddam. Big surprise there.

Because somebody has to think about the shit that might happen.

It's good that we got Saddam, but it introduces a whole new variable and we have no idea yet how that variable will change things long-term.

How could it possibly be better for the coalition to have not caught him?

People have been complaining about how we haven't been transferring enough power to Iraqis; I believe this is the perfect opportunity to put an end to that trend.

Typical Sunday Morning at Niram and Tevar's house.

After lingering in bed until noon, N&T get up, have a nice breakfast of croissants and tea, and N goes into the computer room to check on SDnet, while T lounges on the couch, deciding what to do with her spare time.

N returns, "They've caught Saddam"
T: "What? You're kidding"
N: "It's all over SDnet."
T: "Turn on CNN"

TV is turned on, where CNN is proudly showing pictures of Saddam in captivity.

T: "Holy fuck.. they got him."

Of course, making Smothered Brothers out of Uday and Qusay and capturing most of the top 10 most wanted Ba'athists clearly was not a display of competence.

Ah, Christmas has come early. Bush would have been better off if this had happened during the actual election season.

Still, Iraq has plenty of problems besides Saddam, ie, the eternal Sunni-Shi'ite conflict. If there are positive signs of an Iraqi constitution by November, then we'll see.
Don't hate; appreciate!

I wonder what questions he'll be asked during the interrogation
"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

Whaaaaa-Hoooo.

Would have perfered if he was 'killed durring capture'. But you take what you can get. :D

The news keeps reporting that they intend put him on trial in Iraq. Politicaly, no matter where he gets tried, there will be bitchs and moans so it is suiting to just do it there in Iraq.

I think that alot of the irregulars will stage an increase in attacks, but this is their death spasm. I figure that alot of funds will dry up now or be lost or taken by colalition forces.

Trial in Iraq, DEADMAN Walking.

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red
