I liked the "Sit down on the sofa and share smokes with my two buddy's" end to "A Better Tomarrow II", fuck they knew they were dead, they could hear the sirens, might as well sit down relax and let the blood pool into the sofa that has almost as many bullet holes as the three guys who took down that whole triad army....

The Killer is great for that as well. The two guys completely fucked up after killing hordes of Triad gangsters.

And Time and Tide has a nice ending as well. The pregnant girlfriend of one of the "heroes" killing one of the main bad guys just after giving birth in the cleaning storeroom of a trainstation...

Why is it that woo has made awful movies over here, when his stuff back in Hong Kong was so well done...

Because mainstream Hollywood audiences want happy endings.

HK and discerning audiences want Chinese proverbs fulfilled: "When preparing for vengeance, always dig two graves." - that really sums up how any decent action movie should work.

It really restricts Woo's style. Its why people like Ringo Lam and Tsui Hark have learnt to stay the fuck away from Hollywood and are producing in places like Japan now, rather than Commie HK.

Some that have been covered:

Die Hard
Terminator
Terminator 3

A couple that haven't (these are more "towards the end" scenes, I guess, but still memorable.)

12 Monkeys: Young James Cole looking over at the beautiful woman who is cradling his dying future self.

The Crow: Draven looks up from his own grave, mortally wounded, as the ghost of Shelley Webster kneels beside him.

Terminator 2: John and Sarah Connor saying goodbye to the most unlikely of friends...

Back To The Future III: Buford "Mad Dog" Tannen shoots McFly dead like a dog in the street -- and McFly gets up and proceeds to beat the living shit out of Tannen with the stove lid (or whatever it was) he used as a makeshift flak vest.)

Sorry...Tony Santana is a musician who toured with various acts like Curtis Mayfield in the 70s...I often get their names mixed up...no offence meant  8)

I'd like to mention The Jackal. When The Jackal is about to execute Deckland, his ex turns up out nowhere and shoots The Jackal, hitting Deckland at the same time. Once they've assumed Jackal is dead, they have the nice reunion moment, then Jackal goes to pull a weapon from his ankle. Deckland notices him and pumps him full of bullets.

Good moment, if hard to describe.

Could be worse. He could've mentioned the edited version or American TV.

"How'd you get that scar? Eating pineapple?"

WTF?!

I think we need to mention another Western, so I nominate The Good, The Bad & The Ugly with the definitive Mexican stand-off. And not forgetting Tuco.

Oh yeah, Aliens comes to mind too.

Executive Decision. He was trying to land a 747, but he missed Dulles International's runway, and had to land on a smaller, nearby airfield, and as he was landing hit several lights and parked planes, until finally hitting a mound of dirt.

My vote goes for T3 Rise of the Machines. How often is it that a movie ends with a nuclear holocaust? Espcially one that the heroes have been trying to avert...

I loved that bit!!! Especially the soundtrack part, with all the blast and power in short spurts!

Another favourite of mine is "The Last Boy Scout"????, Bruce Willis. The last bit where he says,"Always be prepared, always be prepared".... that was soo cool.

OT: Why hasn't anybody learnt from the failure of Ringo? They're going to make an American version of Ju-on, quite frankly, the most terrifying movie trailer I have ever seen( I never screwed up the guts to enter the cinema).

The plot was bad, even more bad than the Ring, but damn, that pyschological bit was awesome! I mean, which movie would dare to break the conventional protection a blanket provides? From our childhood days, we have taken to hiding behind our blankets when something goes bump in the night. What happens when that thing is in your blanket??!!!

Anyone here watched Jackie Chan "City Hunter"? Both endings were quite hilarious.

The first ending started when the police showed up and captured all the bad guys, and the girl Jackie been assigned to protect goes up to him, hugs him and says," I be a good girl from now on....(blah blah blah), do you have any request?"
Jackie:"Yes. GIVE ME A BOWL OF WANTON NOODLES!!!!!!"

The epilogue was he finally got up to his girlfriend and convinced him that he will not look at other girls, then Chingmy Yau shows up and begins to talk at him :)

Since we seem to be drifting into any genre, the endings to Lock, Stock and Snatch are great. Oh, Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid in a similar vein.

I already cast my vote for "Unforgiven", but a close runner-up for best action movie ending has to be from "The One":

Heh, The One ending was quite cool, though I was a bit disappointed with the movie overall, expected too much I guess.

Idea for Xmas gift for Dad; Unforgiven if only because I need to see it again.
