Do you wanna eat? (Dinner time)

Sit, lie down, and pointing a finger at my dog all mean the same thing. Typicaly the first time you give these commands she sits, the second time she lies down.

Stay
Heel
Comeboy (go herd the horses to the corral)
Come
Truck or jingling of car keys (means get in the truck so you can get a ride)
Walk (she goes nuts because she loves going for a walk)
Easy. This means to slow down and don't grab at the food were feeding her.

Come
Get
Sit
Lay down
Speak
Roll Over

And a little odd ball one:

Get the geese.

Git! (get out or get moving)
Come (no, not that you sick perverts!)
Sit Pretty (sit up)
Jump
Go find it! or Where's *insert object or person's name here*?
Shake
Gimme five! (they'll do up high as well as down low)
Wanna go for a ride? (again, not that you perverts! )
Speak
Arrrrwoowoo or You gonna woowoo for me? (Duke, a white lab/german sheppard mix, will actually argue with me sometimes and will make that noise. Now he'll do it on command. :D)
Gimme three! (bark 3 times)
Stay
Sit
Down (these last three are usually given with hand signals)

Sit, paw, stay, lie-down, bite my fucking hand, speak, sic 'em, kill and fetch.

Whether he wants to do those at the time is another problem. Intelligent animals often don't follow these commands simply because they know they can do far better things like run off and annoy the other guy's prize breeding bitch.

No matter how much my Dad whacks my dog for this insolence, he never learns. His skull must be steel armour.

Cookie, treat, car, drive, out, play, walk, and whatever else interests her. Plus sit, jump, gimme five, up and a couple of others only when treats are involved.

Her tricks consist of thinking she's not only human, but runs the place. :)

My dog, may she rest in peace, didn't know that many commands... but what she knew, she followed.

Home! - go home, which meant the back porch where the food dish was.
He-year Spot! Cumon, cumon! - time to eat.
Down! - Stop jumping on people.
Race ya! - Chase/race around the yard.
*monotone whistle* - Let's go walk around the neighborhood!
*higher pitched monotone whistle* - come back here.

my dog knows "sit pretty" which is just sitting up with his paws in front of him, and "roll over" which is more like "lie on your back" now that he's old and fat. my cat knows her name so that's cool.

My dog Rex (RIP) knew these:

Sit
Stay
Roll over
High five/Paw
Lie down
Walk!

And my mom had this wierd clicking sound she could make. I could never imitate it, but he always responded to it, no matter what he was doing.

Stuff beyond the standard "sit" kind of thing:

"Go lay down" (only to my bigger dog... he has a couch that's pretty much to himself, that's how we tell him to go get on it)
"Get in your house" (we keep my smaller dog in a cage when we're not at home... I don't like it much, but... yeah.)
"You wanna eat?" (to see if the dogs are hungry or not... when they are, they will jump up and run to within a foot of you to just stare at you until you decide to get them their food)
"In the house" (when dogs are outside, this sends them running towars the door)
"up" (odd trick my little brother taught our bigger dog. he somehow got him to stand on his hind legs and put his front legs on your shoulder when you give him this command. He will stay there until you move away, sometimes he will lick your face.)

uhh, there's probably more, but that's all I can remember right now.

That's how I plan on handling my kids, too. Er, I mean, dog...

Anyway, what about for the cat owners:

How well trained does your cat have you?

Mine knows that all he has to do is meow long enough, and we'll feed him. And he just sits, quietly, at the door, to be let out. And he'll just keep sitting there until we do. And to get back in, he just hops up on our window screen and will hang (yes, hang) there until we let him in (or he gets tired, in which case he just starts scratching the Hell out of it).

My cat will respond to my banging on the door (so it knows when I'm going to bed, and therefore to either come to the door or stay out all night).
It knows the sound of shaking it's food bag.

That's about it. It recognizes other things, but ignores them.

"Sit"
"Down"
"Stay"
"Come"
"Over here" - move to the location signaled by hand
"Paw" - paw/handshake
"Leave it" - don't touch that food
"Get it!" - okay, now you can eat
"Stay. Leave it. Come. Go get it!" - nice combo where she'll walk right past a treat and ignore it until told to eat it
"What do you want?" - she'll get excited if there's something she wants, otherwise she'll ignore it
"Wanna go outside?" - she'll run to the door if so, otherwise she'll ignore it. She may back away from the door and lay down if asked repeatedly.
Later...

Sit
Stay
Down
Come here
Stop
Quit it! (for when he won't stop licking guests, chasing squirrels, etc.)
Fetch

It's at the point where he's been in our family so long that a lot of stuff is non-verbal. We talk to him and play with him but we rarely have to tell him to do stuff anymore, he just picks up on it and does it.

My dog is as deaf as a post. However, she does follow a few basic non-verbal commands, assuming you can catch her attention.

Both my cats will usually come when called, but that's it for them.

Here! (Come 'ere, girl!)
Whoa! (Stop whatever you're doing.)
Get it! (Flush, not the toiliet, but whatever she points)
Bring it here! (Retrieve)
Kennel! (Go to your kennel)
Down! (Stop jumping/running/being hyperactive)
Hunt 'em up! (Go hunt)

A few more short phrases that I can't recall at the moment. She usually responds to what you tell her to do though, because of her basic knowledge of what she is and isn't supposed to do (i.e., me saying 'quit that, ya crazy dog...', if she is jumping on me or something). She's a bird dog, so when in the field, she usually does as she's supposed to without much commanding.

I have very little to do with our dog as it's attacked me more than once...
But I know it respondes to:
Sit
Stay
Leave
Piss off
No
Paw
Down
Up
erm...I think thats it. Personaly I think my cat Vickey is better trained.
She'll do pretty much all of the above and talk when I tell her to.

My last dog is several years dead but her commands were (those that I can remember):

Come here
Stay
Sit
sit pretty (raise front legs)
Lie down
roll over
give me your paw (or just stick out hand)
bark
get the stick (would go find a toy, usually a stick)
squirrel (would look for a squirel)
bad dog (would cower)
treat (expect food)
*make claw with hand* (not spoken, would give a fake snarl)
hole (would look for a nearby hole and enlarge it)
where's mom (would look for my mother)
bath (hides: loved swimming, hated baths)
outside (go to door)

It was a labrador retriever and would also retrieve anything in the water without command, so if my father shot a duck, it just ran into the water to get it without having to train or tell it anything.

I had the dog since it was two weeks old. We knew each other pretty well, so I could usually just grunt and point to get it to do something. She was also well trained at bitting me without puncturing skin from playing so much. It was open-season on my 'rubber-boots', so if I was wearing those I could get "attacked" and dragged around the yard at any time :)

When my dog figured a bath was near, she would hide at a neighbor's house. My mother and I would have to drag the dog like a donkey (one pulling the other pulling) across half the neighborhood.

Heh, thankfully I've got a little Welsh Terrier, so once I scoop him up in my arms, he doesn't really put up a fight. That certainly doesn't mean he's doing it willingly, though!
