What do you take for granted?

What do you take for granted?
Pretty straightforward, I'd say. Family, friends, significant others, pets, places, money, gadgets, intelligence, jobs, education, connections, attitude, beliefs, luck--what is it you sometimes take for granted?
Some things have been going on lately in my life that reiterate that I should enjoy all the moments with those I love, because I'll never know when they could be the last. I have always tried to do that, but looking back, I have seen that sometimes I could have done better.
Where I live is beautiful, especially at the beginning of spring, when everything's so vibrantly green, and in the winter when the trees sparkle with ice and the ground is blanketed in snow. There's a spot where two hills overlap each other a little bit, with a forest in the background and a small windmill off to the side, that is simply charming. I also love being able to see thousands of stars on a clear night.
I am fortunate to have the education I have, as I know other who are working twice as hard as I did to secure a similar level of schooling.
Although the list is currently changing, there are some people in my life who care about me very much and have been nothing short of wonderful to me. I try to never forget to say how much I love and appreciate them, but I do from time to time.

Family, intelligence, money (not rich, but not in poverty), location (not in some African shithole), good health.
*EDIT* Actually no, I don't take good health for granted. I work my ass off for it.

A lot.
Particularly that my life is a lot less complicated and issue-free than a lot of other peoples'.
And because of that, sometimes I feel rather pathetic and worthless for complaining about the trivial crap that goes on for me when other people have so much worse happen to them.

I'd echo all of that, especially the location. It's not that I take it for granted, but I definetly remind myself every now and then, that if it wasn't for an accident of birth, I could have been born in a 3rd world country very easily (of course this plays off the idea that we have souls and what not, but you get the picture).Howedar wrote:Family, intelligence, money (not rich, but not in poverty), location (not in some African shithole), good health.

Family, money, where I live, friends, education, and whole slew of things I more then likely forgetting.
Health never really becomes something I take for granted given what I am currently doing.
I'm probably forgetting even minor stuff as well that most people wouldn't take for granted...

I don't think there's much I really take for granted anymore, I've learned the hard way that I just can't. Intelligence, I'm one concussion away from being a retard or a vegetable, last time I got knocked in the head I spent a couple days in a coma and the next month in a complete haze. My mind still ain't 100% and I know it and I can feel it. Healthwise I have to work to stay in my current shape and I have enough aches and pains to remind me that I ain't immortal. Friends & family, no, I've lost too many over the years, cancer and leukemia will do that.
I think it's just my beliefs and value system, I don't know how I came across them and developed them but they just are. That's about all I take for granted these days.

Say, do you want it to be a threesome with your wife? Or a foursome with your wife and sister-in-law? I'm up for either.

I think my sight more than anything.
When I wear my contacts, I totally forget just how bad my eyes truly are. When I take them out, I'm virtually blind, yet I continuelly bend the rules and leave them in longer than I should, even though I know doing so could damage my eyes even further than nature did.

The fact that I have anyone I can talk to about my problems.. period.
[EDIT] I don't have anything physically about me that I take for granted.. I know what it's like to wake up hurting everywhere for seemingly no reason.. to have headaches because the sun is too bright or the music is too loud.. many, many things like that.

Memory is another good one.
Working body parts, like my hands and wrists. As I am working for a music education degree, those are going to be very important, and sometimes I forget the stress I put them through at work.

Food, porn, electricity, location, the usual things that everyone takes for granted I supose.
I would say I took the internet for granted, but yesterday I had trouble getting online etc, so I won't for a week or so.

I sometimes take my status and location for granted. I live in an upper middle-class home in New Jersey (Definately not the best place to live, but better than most of the natural-disaster/famine/extremely expensive housing-ridden places on earth), and don't have to do anything to keep it, other than go to school (Another thing I take for granted, some kids don't even go to school, or goof off the whole time and flunk), and do the occasional chore.

I think that there are a lot of things that I took for granted for a long time but I think the worst one has been my health. Even now I still delude myself into thinking that given time things will bet better, that they will heal. That is not necessarilly the case.

My incredbly good looks and increased sexual stamina. Because I know that there are a lot of ugly looking people out there, and there are also a lot of guys out there that would kill for the ability to go all night strong all night long.

Right now, there is not alot I take for granted except living in a Western country.
I don't have a permament job, and am currently working for 40% less than I was making in 2002. Yet, Im grateful for the money.
My friends have been partially responsible for me not living on the street. For that I am very grateful.
As bad as things are , they could be worse.
