Interplay: BIS is not closed and Fallout 3 is not cancelled

Rumors generated by a former employee. Fallout 3 is "under review" however.

Don't start topics based on rumors about something and say '[company name]:' as if it's a press release. I thought this was serious.
It's good to hear rumors like these but I don't really hold much esteem for rumors. I hope it's right, but I doubt it.

Which brings us up to our new guest star, Interplay's investor relations department, with their official denial of the stories. "For the record," says Interplay, "Black Isle Studios remains open with projects pending, the status of Fallout 3 is under review, and Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel will ship on January 13."

As far as this "under review" status for Fallout 3, Interplay had this to say: "Fallout lives...now that is not to say we have a new Fallout PC game coming in the next few months, but management will do what it can to maximize the intellectual property it owns and the fan base it has, within the financial parameters it must operate."

Interplay was quick to characterize the closure and cancellation reports as nothing more than "false rumors" possibly generated by former Interplay employees. (The source of our second story was, indeed, a former Interplay employee.) Since Interplay is a publicly-traded company (IPLY) it does seem likely that they would have issued an official release regarding the closure. As our contact at Interplay put it: "If Interplay management had closed its most valuable development asset or chosen to abandon one of its most prized intellectual assets, the Company would have made an announcement."
Well, I at least hope it's true.

Um, NO, it *is* a company statement, saying that the previous ones were rumors started by a former employee. Did you even read the fucken thing?

Passing off the former rumour as a real news item.

But then, IGN just plain sucks by default. They really don't have to do anything to prove it. :)

It's interesting that Black Isle's site doesn't say anything:

www blackisle com

Chardock, you might be able to order direct from Interplay via that site, too.
Note: I'm semi-retired from the board, so if you need something, please be patient.

It's not like they neglected to mention that it was a rumour and not an official company statement. Rumours can be real news items, especially if they come from former employees
