A note on how terrorist "cells" work:

Post by Tom_Aurum »

In case you didn't know or weren't paying attention. Like you learned in Biology class, terrorist cells work like those in a body.

It starts with one nucleus, a leader, and his small cadre of evil minions (or righteous freedom fighters, if you go from their perspective.) The leader quickly begins to double the amount of people in the group, training another leader. Then Mitosis begins, as he sends the leader and the swollen half of the group off to have their own fun. He should also instruct the other cell to do as he did, so that the group buildup begins to become exponential.

Among other things, this is why it is hard for even an ultimate leader of said organizations to really betray their underlings. Because he really doesn't know what sort of chaos they have planned, it is another organization entirely that is causing trouble. Ultimately this means that catching Saddam means... Jack. So we dragged a bum out of a hole in Tikrit. Yay.

Saddam was THE POINT of the whole guerilla fight. He funded these groups, probably hoping that some day he might be reinstated as a leader of Iraq. Now this whole guerilla combat lost a part of it's underlying principles, which are:
1) kick the occupation forces out of Iraq
2) put Saddam back on his chair

Cross 2 out. Attacks won't stop, but this was the right step towards stabilizing the situation in Iraq. This 'bum' of yours was feared by entire civilian population.

how do you know they use this system and not an organized resistance? organized resistance would be much more effective in the current situation, as to not waste valued men and equipment.

Wait, wait... you already admitted that Saddam would have a connection to SOME of the cells. Just because there might be a few that we won't find because of this, that makes the entire endeavor useless?

::scoff::

I'd give you a note on how logic works, but I don't think it'll stick.

So we excise the root of the tumor. But the cancer can just grow back, and sometimes twice as strong without a single root cell.
