US 'seizes al-Qaeda drugs ship'

Post by theski »

Twelve people on board were detained after it was found to be carrying almost two tons of hashish valued at up to $10m, a Centcom statement said.

There were "clear ties" between the shipment and al-Qaeda, it added.

BBC Pentagon correspondent Nick Childs says the finding is potentially significant - the clear implication is that this was a smuggling operation designed to help finance the al-Qaeda network.

Isn't the "clear Al Qaeda connections" a bit too obvious?

Perhaps if it was legal, and stores could legally sell it, then there would be no reason for terrorist groups to sell it on the black market for a large price, therefore cutting off their funds. There was a similar problem with Prohibition, I believe.

Crowing about a possible link between drugs and terrorists, especially one as tenuous as this:
US Central Command reports that the wooden dhow was intercepted near the Strait of Hormuz by the destroyer USS Decatur.
...as if it's a major victory is sad. The plethora of wooden dhows pumping their evil cargo into the U.S. is......nonexistant.
The market for this hash was more likely than not local, dhows aren't exactly capable of crossing the Atlantic, and hash is highly popular in the Middle East.

Cart before the horse. Being a black market with no regulation at all, it's rather easy for drug sales to fund terrorism. Their products enjoy thousand-percent markups, and the whole business is run by cartels. If drugs were legalized, then the US could buy them from whatever country it chose, and it could choose countries to buy from or simply make its own.

Drug lords would take a massive hit in the wallet for two reasons. Firstly, even if they could maintain their business, they'd have to sell the products at reasonable rates to compete with legal dealers. Secondly, they'd have to spend more money making sure their products are of good quality to compete with legal dealers. If you wanted drugs, and you had an illegal source to buy from as opposed to a legal one, you'll buy from the legal one because it's cheaper, and you can be more confident that the product is not contaminated.

Suck down basic economics. Suck hard.

Dumbfuck. There are no substancial evidence offered except "trust CENTCOM" which isn't reliable in terms of their bullshit peddled prior. When we see some real evidence, we'll discuss drugs + terrorism.

Moreover, show this has any relation to the DEA commercial crap here by showing it was headed for the U.S. Also, ignore the fact that the only reason harmless intoxicants like cannabis can be used to fund criminals is because they're unnecessarily illegal in the first place, idiot.

By genius' here's logic, the Prohibition justified itself because bootleg alcohol financed gangsters.

It seems the status-quo crowd just gained some points.

Why legalize in the United States a crop whose export and use is integral to the economies of potential adversaries?

Are you blind or stupid? This is a point in favor of the pro-legalization crowd. If you legalize it, it will no longer be integral to the economies of potential adversaries, you stupid, stupid fuck.

Following your logic, we should also criminalize oil.

I'm tired and irritated, therefore I feel like bonding with a general spirit of the N&P Forum and exercising one of its holy rites: exemplifying the mental failures of the sub-archeobacterial lifeform known as Axis Kast.

I've never found a more pedantic formalistic poseur of a dumbshit than Axis.

Axis clearly knows nothing about economics, where a legal product is obviously within the government's power to regulate since it isn't driven underground to the mobs, and is purchased where the government decides (for a guy who has supported American protectionism, one would expect him to know that at least), or he is purposely and selectively using knowledge where it benefits his preconcieved agendas.

Either Axis' cranium is occupied by revolting sludge which shares more with pig offal than human neurons, or he's a lying, coniving, oppurtunistic dishonest fuck.

So Axis: recieve institutionalized care immediately for your condition, or go the fuck away and troll someone else's discussion rather than infesting this one with your inane, drug-addled $.02 crapshoot.

It's an evil Republican trick, there is no drug ship, the pot was grown in California, harvested, and then they (the CIA, those evil oil men from TX) took prisoners from Gitmo, and dropped them on the ship with the pot, and then moved the ship into the strait of Hormuz. That allowed the U.S. navy to conveniently pick them up. Thus putting out the idea that they are winning the war against Al Qeada.

This is another attempt at pre election politics by those evil Republicans. They are also holding Osama and Ayman in some secret prison in TX for an September and October surprise. Remember, Republicans and Conservatives are evil, they're out to trick you and take your precious civil liberties.

Thank you 0.1 and Axis, you have pulled the liberal wool off from my eyes. It is obvious to me now that legalizing pot will only help the black market terrorist dealers, because it's obvious there's no way legalized and regulated dealers selling cheaper drugs will beat out black market overpricecd ones.

Jesus Christ. Do you have anger management problems or something? Wow.

We aren’t importing Afghani marijuana anyway. If we legalize it, we lose a means by which to entangle potential terrorists even if we still need time to corroborate other more damaging data.

Call me a sadist, but I say legalize pot, heck, do the same for crack cocaine and everything else. Why not, if people want to kill themselves and render themselves utterly brain dead. Who am I or any of you to stand in their way.

But, if you do legalize drugs, then it's time to shut down the drug rehab programs. It's a drain on govt. resources to fight against the drug problem and a utter waste of money. Let the fuckers kill themselves I say, and if people can turn a profit and subsidize the government with the taxes from drug money. All the better, imagine, all the wonderful weapons program you can subsidize, and then have stoned people running those weapon systems. I figure it's the evolutionary process, the weak will die off, and the human race as a whole will be better because of it.

Ok, now back to my crack habit. Muhahahahaha

We shouldn't legalize pot because if we did, we wouldn't be able to arrest terrorists for selling it?

Why do people refer to anti-prohibitionists as "liberal"? Since when has any liberal politician stated a pro-legalization stance?
