I did some simple little WW2ish Imperial propaganda a while back...

That was simply to copy the WW1 type ones, which always had "God Save the King!" put in, seemingly at random. ;)

What about a picture of a Kaminoan and the text "Join the Navy or THIS guy will abduct you!"

Should definately convince Whitley Strieber to join the Imperial Armed Forces....

This sort of leading into a tangent, but I always thought Maori had a history of being good fighters, from the NZ Land Wars - to the Maori Battalions in WW2 - right through to members of the NZ Armed Forces serving in peace-keeping forces around the world.

(Tho your average Maori probably doesn't have as much experience with firearms as your average redneck ...)

Here's my submission, which I've already submitted. I'm afraid it doesn't fit with the whole Vader theme that I saw in the other thread though.

Image

It's very heavily based on a Howard Chandler Christy poster from World War One, though the art is my own. I was thinking about coloring it and fixing the rank bar though. What do you all think?

Certainly a different slant on things. I doubt it could go on the Main page as it's too overtly racist, but if Mike (or a contributor) wanted to do a look at the specism in the Empire, this and others would be great as mock-examples of Imperial posters and adverts.

Well, that's the thing. I was under the impression that the Imperial Navy was that overtly racist when it came to non-humans, sort of in the name "nudge/wink, right, honey" attitude that the original poster I based it off was (the original poster would have caused ten thousand angry feminists to march on Washington if it was published today).

Oh it is, but do you really think that a poster so overtly racist would be a good thing on the front page of the site? That's why I suggested the alternative.

Don't forget the New Empire can't afford to be so completely exclusionist. Already they have the Chiss. So the alternative i suggested could be written in a proganda Spin-doctor style. 'This is what we used to be like - booo - but this is the new enlightened Empire... we're only partly specist'.

You've got a point, of course, and I understand.

The reason I went with that is (A) the art book with the old propaganda sheets in it I own only had three shots from World War One posters, that, the Uncle Sam poster, and the one with the lady clutching her baby underwater with the message "Never forget the Lusitania!" The first was the only one I got clear inspiration from that made any sense given the context of the Galactic Empire. (B) I didn't want to do another picture of Vader, since I figured everyone else was doing photoshop jobs of Vader and I wanted to stand out more.

On the positive, I can change the text fairly easily if we want to keep the art but get rid of the "Gee, I wish I was a human..." part.

No! Keep it, tidy up the lines and colour it. Do a series and if no one else like RedImp, Stravo or MoO do the spoof article, I will.

Do some along the line of the Anti-Jew and Anti-Japanese ones from WW2 , those should fit quite nicely. Just put in some Aliens and make the tag lines more generic.

Well, the marker rendering of the above image is underway, but it's going to take at least two more days to finish at best (markers being a finicky art that I want to be careful with.

I know it's a shitty photo (my digital camera is an old thing) but here is what I've got so far.
Image

It will look much nicer once I've got it nice and scanned. And those white lines aren't white, they are the pencil lead reflecting the flash from my camera.

That's coming along quite nicely. What I might do is write up a rough page template tomorrow (if no one else volunteers to do it) and that way you know what pictures are required.

Mike; Any preferences for tone on the piece - officious, scholarly or outright Spin-doctoring & do you want it as one man writing or the appearance of a co-written piece (Scholar + Neophyte, Scholar + Scholar, Scholar + Politician, Scholar + Spin doctor)?

Keep in mind, the next one is going to be STvsSW themed. I've got a good idea for one. It's pretty vicious, but then again I don't think I'm going to encounter enough Klingons in my day to day to worry.

Um, well the document is supossed to be about the Old Empires Anti-Alien stance, and a spin-doctoring of the New Empire. A SW vs ST poster doesn't fit in at all. I was thinking along the lines of a Nemodian in an Anti-jew inspired parody or a Rodian/Wookie in an Anti-Japanese inspired Parody circa WW2.

I can get away with just using the present one, but I'd have prefered a few spanning different prejudices.
