Admit it, you just want them to build the GENOM tower.Shinova wrote:I think they should've made just one thick building, preferably cylindrical in shape and converging on top. And make it 2000 feet tall or something.
Where's that nuke? (Final Freedom Tower design) (new WTC)

Well, I dont understand the desire to build giant towers. Am I being simplistic by thinking its just big dick syndrome?
With that said, I think this is design is attractive. I thought the original towers where not terribly attractive. So I guess Im an asshole like Hipper.

A better one than the original choice, "French Tower."Raxmei wrote:What kind of name is Freedom Tower?

I've got mixed feelings. My practical side says it's a horrible monstrosity even at the same time that my inner little kid that likes really big shiny stuff jumps up and down and shouts "Cool!"

I had to explain that joke to Nitram!! He thought it was a symbolic 'we stand together' kind of thing. Until I flipped him the bird, then he got the reference.
Nitram, slightly high on cough syrup: Do you know you're beautiful?
Me: Nope, that's why I have you around to tell me.
Nitram: You -are- beautiful. Anyone tries to tell you otherwise kill them.

They don't even look like they fit in with the rest of the buildings in that first one...

Isengard? ISENGARD!?!Admiral Valdemar wrote:I'm going with Ein. Instead of this PoS, we need a classic stone tower of pure evil like Isengard where a holographic projection of a flaming serpent eye shoots a beam of light death at any incoming terrorists or commies.
That is not Isengard, my dear Tokien-Heathen. That is the Dark Tower Barad'dur itself. Home of the Dark Lord of the Rings himself, Sauron!
To be fair, a recreation of Isengard and it's tower Orthanc would be pretty cool as well.Einhander Sn0m4n wrote: That is not Isengard, my dear Tokien-Heathen. That is the Dark Tower Barad'dur itself. Home of the Dark Lord of the Rings himself, Sauron!

I know that, my flagrantly gay railgunner friend, but Isengard would look cool as you could have the surrounding area flat like the circular area around Isendard for stuff, say, Starbucks (because they're evil).Einhander Sn0m4n wrote:Isengard? Two boxes on end was "classic"? Give me a break, Shep. You're telling me that if the WTC had simply burned down on accident rather than being destroyed by terrorists, you'd give a shit about how the new one looked?

I liked the WTC design, actually; it was pretty in a businesslike, conservative way. Still, I an't help but wish they'd go for more of the art deco design of the thirties. Stupid architects

The original WTC towers completely destroyed the symmetry of the Lower Manhattan skyline. They blended with the prewar skyscrapers about as well as two giant alien spaceships. They were part of a trend in the 50's and 60's by modernist architects to ignore the past and make no attempt to harmonize their designs with existing work (the Pan Am building was the most egregious example of this trend). They had about two interesting architectural features: the Gothic arches at their base and their aluminum skin, which did interesting things with the sunlight. Oh, and building the WTC interrupted the lower Manhattan street grid and obliterated an entire neighborhood.
The new design at least tries to fit in the skyline better with smaller towers around a single large tower, and restores the street grid. And the slope of the lower tower roofs is designed to cast a beam of light down into the memorial plaza every September 11 morning, so they're not just randomly sloped. But other than that, I can't think of very much about this design that I like.
