He's just going with the Nation of Islam because they'll let him continue in his "The Man's keepin' a brutha' DOWN!" delusions instead of telling him the truth, "Hey Mike? You're fucked UP, man." Jackson will let anybody sweet-talk him as long as he doesn't have to own up to his personal responsibilities.

I think he was into the Kaballah at some point as well, and also was a friend of Deepak Chopra's.

That said, are there any other sources for this? I'm sure I remember reading somewhere that it was a little more complex than this.

Jackson is suited more to the catholic priesthood, IMO

My thoughts are that its to put some credibility to future claims of racism. Before you really could call it racism, he was white. Now he's a former blackman that is part of the Nation of Islam.

Wacko Jacko joining the Nation of Islam (and presumably donating a nice big wad of money) is what is known as a Smart Move whan you are facing some serious prosecution.
Being a member of the Nation of Islam wil insure that there will be people who will protect him when he goes to jail. He's just covered his ass.
