I got a compaq computer for christmas with windows XP and I cant play any of my new games. Like Splinter cell just freezes at a black screen and Battlefeild 1942 the weapons and vechiles are all messed up.

Seriously. Compaq stuffs so much shit on their computers that they turn them into slow, ungainly pieces of shit.

So what you'll want to do is go to Compaq's website, download all the drivers that apply to your computer, burn them to a CD (if you have a CD burner) and then get a Windows XP cd (Professional Edition) and do a clean reinstall.

Or hell, even get Windows 2000.

Try upgading Direct X and the Video card drivers.

You should find them on windowsupdate and get all critical fixes while you are at it.

Pre-loaded OSs are the Abomination. And Compaq is well-known for putting a bunch of crap on their PCs. Just make sure you have the right model number when you go to their website to find drivers. Their site does have an option of putting in your serial number. That way, you know it will bring up the correct model numbers for your PC and video card.
