I don't know where you were going with the Carbon Creek thing since wether it was 1957 or FC time frame humans were in contact with Vulcans long before Enterprise takes place.

I hate to be the Trek Trivia guy here, but Vulcans and Romulans
had a good bit of contact prior to "Minefield." Sometime during
the first "Q episode" of VGR, Q remarks that "Quinn" was somehow
responsible for a 100 year-long war between the Vulcans and
Romulans. Since Quinn was banished inside a comet in 2072, that'd
predate ENT by a fair margin.

Bugger it all, I can't remember that episode's name...it was actually
quite good by any standard. Janewad chewed the scenery pretty badly,
but it was an interesting concept.

From what you said it would definately predate Enterprise and post date (by several thousand years) the Romulans breaking off from the Vulcans.

I hope this latest Enterprise episode isn't another case of B/B making the Vulcans sneaky and lying. While I can see reasons for the Vulcans to not want to discuss the Romulans there are a lot more logical ones for them to discuss them.

The key is the angle from which the ship is approaching you. If a (relatively) flat ship is approaching at a bows-on angle, it is showing a minimal target aspect. The actual available target you have to sight is narrow and smaller than if you had the ship in the gunsights from topside. Furthremore, distance complicates the problem of accurately targeting a ship presenting a minimal aspect —especially at kilometre ranges and beyond.

It looks like the Voyager episode Death Wish is the one where Quin mentions starting a 100 year war between the Romulans & Vulcans prior to 2072.

I am hoping this means that B/B have decided to leave Voyager out of continuity (it was a bad dream before they all died on the Caratker's array) but I figure it is more likely that they are pissing it away on Enterprise.

The FC alternate timeline could also work in this case and considering how
Braga has been wacking off as to how great the Temperal Cold War is going to be I figure that it's possible that the whole Enterprise series could end up being tweaked by the Universal Reset button somewhere down the line because of this war. Braga has always gotten off on thumbing his nose at fans who complain about continuity so I wouldn't put it past him to play with that and then reset everything at the end so it actually fits. This way he can do pretty much whatever he wants and still claim to have not jacked things up.
