Guess he didn't get the kind of control that would allow him to make the Redskins suck in his own personal way.

Any rumors as to who the Redskins will be shooting for as the next coach?

Ah, and now I won't have to hate the Redskins simply because of my complete loathing of their coach. Hey, I'm a Vol fan, what would any self respecting fan of any other SEC team do other than hate him?

Hey, I see that Jim Fassel must be suffering from head trama inflicted by the New York media. Why else would he even think of interviewing for the Cardinals job?

I blame it all on the Bengals. Everyone has said for years that the organization sucks and that you can't win there so what happens? They get a new coach and nearly make the playoffs. Now people are starting to get the idea that they can do it with the Cards. Good luck.

He will end up like Pete Carroll no doubt. After taking a super bowl team (1997 Patriots) through two sub .500 years he was fired (WITH THE SAME TALENT), went to USC and kicked some serious ass. Some College coaches, although very talented, can't handle coaching professionals, and just can't handle the pressure of the NFL.

I don't think it is solely the pressure, although I think that is a factor.

I think the two games are still different enough from each other and so are the situations. College football still isn't the full blown business that the NFL is. Student/players can't be treated like players in the NFL and the NFL players really can't be treated like college students.

In Spurrier's case he could generally expect to have a team that was loaded with athletic ability when he was at Florida. In the college game that gave him an edge over a lot teams.

There have been a lot of coaches that sucked at college coaching and did well at the NFL level and vice versa. Of course most of the good coaches who had iffy college stints were coaching at schools like Stanford, Cal, North Western etc.. That doesn't totally explain Dennis Ericson who was able to turn Oregon State around and still hasn't shown anything as a pro coach.

They all can't be as lucky as Barry Switzer. Be the hired gun token coach for the Cowboys for a few years right after they came off of back-to-back Superbowl victories. Now that's the way to coach.

While Erickson definately had a hand in OSU's change, Mike Riley (the first time) probably deserves equal credit.

IMHO, Spurrier's problem was that the 'Fun-n-Gun' wouldn't work against an NFL level defense and compounding that problem was that the QB talent of the 'Skins was marginal at best.

Oh, and let's not forget an ego that made Jimmy Johnson look like a shrinking violet by comparison.

I thought 2 years ago that Spurrier would fall flat on his face in the NFL and I glad to see that I was correct.

You would have thought that the schlacking Nebraska gave the Gators a few years ago would have warned him about trying to step to the next level. It doesn't seem to work unless your team's talent level is at least the same level as the competition's.
