Unfortunately all my flight mates are out of town, so I am stuck in the local area with absolutely nothing to do. Damn this place sucks! Fortunately tommorrow and Friday are free pass days, so I can go over to the Best Buy in San Antonio and look at all the cool shit I could never afford. Monday I start working my 60-72 hour weeks again, but at least I'll be getting air under my butt.

Might have grandparents around sometimes and have some snack foods and watch TV and observe the fireworks going off over the horizon in Liverpool. Other than that, it's typically staying in with the TV on, maybe a quick trip to the pub for a few quick ones but until our local is rebuilt that means driving, ergo, not much drinking.
I typically don't care much for it, but the transition to a new year and January is depressing. SAD syndrome becomes rife.

Borrow an F-16 for the night and go and have fun, pick some girls up. So long as you return the keys in the morning, they shouldn't mind. :pWicked Pilot wrote:Unfortunately all my flight mates are out of town, so I am stuck in the local area with absolutely nothing to do. Couldn't care less. I plan to stay home and relax.

I usually stay up till midnight anyway, so the only difference is that I get to blast some fireworks. I usually stay at home as well (though when people ask me "Hey, what did YOU do at New Year's Eve and I say I just stayed home, they look at me like I was some sort of weirdo )
And I hate the specials. They're EXACTLY the same as all the others, only with different reporters doing the babbling.

Big family get-together, which is currently going on, however, i am sober already and can't stand them. So i've shut myself away so i don't have to look at them.
Ugh, my auntie freaks me out when she's drunk, i can't tell if she's coming on to me or not.
Cousin is in a bad mood, i don't give a shit about everyone else, they're all annoying and drunk.
EDIT: fucking hell, i just had to spend ages trying to console my crying aunt and cousin, but i kept bursting into laughter(not song) becausde they were crying for fucking stupid reasons. Jesus H Vishnu, no booze for them in future.

Actually prostitution is available down the road in Cuadid Acuna, so one can do better than simply wacking off with just a few dollars. But for me at least, I will be in my room watching Bruce Almighty and Finding Nemo which I just picked up at Blockbuster.Darth Wong wrote:Soooo .... it's porno, hand cream, and tissue for you?

New Year's Eve? Who's that?
Lame jokes aside, what's the deal? It's just another reminder of the inexorable march of time. I get enough of those already.

Nothing special these days, I might get together with friends and rent a movie and/or cuddle depending on the gender of those friends. Nothing special, we do that on normal days anyway.
Tell me about it, it's been especially bad this year since all we've had is freakin' rain and clouds. At least if it snows I can go outside & do stuff but it just keeps raining over here. I am not too fun to be around these days.Admiral Valdemar wrote:I typically don't care much for it, but the transition to a new year and January is depressing. SAD syndrome becomes rife.

Lusankya: Deal!
Say, do you want it to be a threesome with your wife? Or a foursome with your wife and sister-in-law? I'm up for either.

New Year is nice. It's a good time to gather all the friends and family that you can, and either:
1) go to a camping trip to the beach
2) make a really neat party
3) have a quiet dinner, maybe some chicken roll and salad, etc
And at midnight wish everyone you can a happy new year, then drink some booze and stuff, spill champagne everywhere, etc. If by then the government doesn't outlaw fireworks, go and have a blast.
I used to think it was some kind of abstract representation of the rest of the year (like if yo spent it partying then most of the rest of the year would be spent in parties) but that's kinda silly now. Still it's a good moment to spend with friends (unlike xmas, which should be spent with family)
If you don't think it's special it's probably because you live in one of those countries where your entire family is always miles apart and you don't have many friends

Re: Who makes a big deal out of New Year's Eve?
Nah, I could give a rats arse. I just spent some time with my family as usual. Nothing festive at all.Darth Wong wrote:With New Year's Eve coming up, I thought the question should be asked: do any of you make a big deal out of it? Watch the specials? Go to bars? Hold parties?
Personally, I couldn't care less. It comes too soon on the heels of Christmas, and its only significance to me is a calendar change.

The Wing needed people to sit up in the control tower and monitor the construction on our center runway in shifts during the break. Since I was going to be in town for half the time I volunteered for the job, but appartently they found enough abusable enlisted folks to do it instead.RogueIce wrote:Don't you have a duty officer spot that has to be filled?
