Though that is true, "classical" music (as the normal person would know it) usually involves music that is or emulates the music of the classical/baroque/etc. eras. The Yosemite Bear wrote:this tends to confuse me, as many people only consider the works of 18th, 19th & 20th century Orchestral/Operatic musicians to be "classical", when there is quite a bit of music proceeding that they are ignoring....
More of a fan of Baroque, actually...darthdavid wrote:Well who likes classical music?
Some people speak in layman's terms. ;P And yes, I as well am a fan of the baroque era. I take after my old orchestra teacher so much, lol.jegs2 wrote:More of a fan of Baroque, actually...darthdavid wrote:Well who likes classical music?
You'd be better off doing it to Marche Slav.Lord_Woodlouse wrote:Yeah, all the above are funky, but Tchaikovsky is damn good... especially "Dance of the Knights". Ah, yes, I can oppress to that music.
I do...when it doesn't put me to sleep. I need powerful stuff to keep my attention, such as war themes.~Jasondarthdavid wrote:Well who likes classical music?
As a general rule, no. I actively dislike any opera. Does that make me a bad person?darthdavid wrote:Well who likes classical music?
No. I don't normally like vocal music either. -shrugs-Morrigan wrote:As a general rule, no. I actively dislike opera. Does that make me a bad person?darthdavid wrote:Well who likes classical music?
Oh, good. There are so many other things that make me a bad person and I do hate to overdo things.verilon wrote:No. I don't normally like vocal music either. -shrugs-Morrigan wrote:As a general rule, no. My recommendations for you:Soontir C'boath wrote:I do...when it doesn't put me to sleep. I need powerful stuff to keep my attention, such as war themes.~Jason
Look for the CD with Lorin Maazel conductiong the French National Orchestra. That's the best recording I've heard yet. Here's a pic of the CD case if you want to buy it in a store:phongn wrote:I love Holst's The Planets, but it is difficult to find a good recording of it -- mine certainly isn't too good.
Also, the 6th movement. Trust me, having played it.IRG CommandoJoe wrote:The fourth movement of Dvorak's Symphony No. 9 ("New World" Symphony).
I can be really enjoying what I think will be an excellent piece of music, only to hear someone ruin it with their voice, which to me seems completely out of place with all of those well-played and finely-tuned instruments.Morrigan wrote: I actively dislike any opera. Six movements? Are there two movements I haven't heard of before, or is it simply the four movements broken up into six shorter movements?verilon wrote: Also, the 6th movement. Trust me, having played it.
[EDIT] I remember that sometimes it's the 6th, sometimes the 4th. In either case, I believe the movement is called "Furiant."
You should also try listening to John Williams' orchestration of the Zelda theme. I don't have it, but I have heard it and must say that it was done very well.jegs2 wrote:Officially, it doesn't, but I've got an excellent CD with Final Fantasy music on it, and my wife and I enjoy listening to it when we're driving (by we, I mean she, since I avoid driving whenever possible)...
More than likely. We played "Furiant" from Dvorak's 9th Symphony the year I was in Youth Orchestra in Albuquerque, and it was (on the viola part) labelled the 6th movement, and on other parts labeled the 4th movement (about an even distribution of bring called the 6th and the 4th).IRG CommandoJoe wrote:Six movements?
