What Civilization Would You Want To Live In???

Post by Techno_Union »

What civilization would you want to live in, in all of Earth's history? Would it be the Egyptians, Romans, Greeks, 17th century England, 14th dynasty Imperial China, what???

I have concluded, after living in Germany and spending my summers in Rome visiting its country side :D , I would most definately want to live there and live the splendor of that magnificant age. The buildings and history is simply awe-inspiring.

Well, heritage wise I'd love to live in the last Korean dynasty.. at least I'd have power there :-D

But if I had no dynastic heritage.. I would love to live in the Roman empire and tour the Empire. Or perhaps early 20th century America during the golden age of the 1920s.

A lot of the grandeur of ancient civilizations is blown out of proportion and the "good old days" of Greece, Rome and Egypt are highly overated. Imperial China would have been hell as would have any European state during the Middle Ages. It comes down to it that unless you are the Pharoah, King or Emperor of the civilization in question, it would have sucked enormous amounts of ass. Disease, filth, ignorance, oppressive governments. The only pro I can think of is the high tolerance for public nudity, but of course, their standard of beauty was very um, different from ours.

Assuming I could live as one of my ancestors, I'd go to Victorian Britain. I figure I'd be rich, granted the civilisation itself sucked ass though.
Otherwise, perhaps ancient Athens, seems cool.

I guess that is true. But like Trytostaydead I have noble blood ties, to the Romans and the Germans. My ancestors in Germany were very very wealthy, they owned a tone of horses and land. As for the Roman times my ancestors were some sort of nobles in Rome. So living back then would not have been bad for me. But it would not be that bad for other people as long as it was not the Dark Ages..

Soposedly, I'm related to William Wallace. But that's not exactly a heritage I could take advantage of in the appropriate era...

Seriously, the civilization of today. In the ancient world I would probably not survive for long.

However, I would find it interesting to just pay a visit to Crete or Thera under the Minoan culture. Any culture which inspired the legend of Atlantis must be worth attention.

I'd have to go with that one as well. I would have died before graduating high school if I was living in most of the ages suggested.

Constantinople, citizen of Rome, at the time of Justinian I. Perhaps as a scholar. Or China around 200AD.

I'd want to be about 19 in WWII-era America. I'd enlist. I'd kill many enemies with my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine...umm...sorry, yeah. But, uh, anyway. I'd for sure want to fight in WWII, and especially to live through the war. Post WWII america must've seemed like an age of endless possiblility.

Can we claim the history of the future as part of earths history? :P

I dunno.. Maybe ancient Rome, just to try and start a miniature industrial revolution by producing cheaper products and beating all my rivals. Or perhaps 19th century Europe/America so I could use my knowledge of modern technology to change the world earlier than normal. Or perhaps the early 1970s; one of my dreams is to be part of the PC revolution, the entire endeavor that Jobs and Wozniak undertook was just.. awesome. And I could bring modern design aesthetics to 1970s Apple.. Imagine that, an Apple II that looks like an iMac.. you thought the thing was revolutionary the first time around, just wait until it comes out looking like something out of the year.. 1999. :)

It actually was not hard. First talk to your older relatives(I still have relatives that live in Rome), then you can trace your surname or your parents surname back using different companies on the internet or through history books,(but it costs money and sometimes a lot of work), and most of the time your history is past down from generation to generation and the way you live today also can tell you some things about your history. But again, there is a lot of work involved if no one in your family knows your past.

Numenor, after all, it "happen in Earth's past".
"The rifle itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles."
