Study Reveals Abstinence-Only Sex Ed Not Working

According to the Minnesota Department of Health, sexual activity among junior high school students has doubled since the five-year "ENABL" (Education Now And Babies Later) program started. MDH officials are unsurprised by the findings.

The real question is, how much money was wasted on a worthless program that does nothing to curb adolescent promiscuity? If they want to keep kids from having sex, then what they need to do is have the health teachers start showing videos and slides that depict what STIs do to your body.

A picture of a pus-filled penis, or a labia that's filled with nice scabs, is usually enough to gross them out completely. On the other hand, doing this would royally piss off the Soccer Moms United -- "You're scarring our children!"

Remember, the Soccer Mom's don't vote. Why? Because they don't care. All you have to do is implement this right after you're sworn in, and have it taught right after Winter Break. That gives em enough time to forget...

Umm... they already do this, don't they? At least they did when I was in high school (a normal public one here in Oregon). I don't think it stopped anyone.

I don't see why anyone isn't suprised, all though with class intelligence tends to decrease the number of kids who've had sex.

In my program, its a mere 10%. (Gee it feels swell to be in the sluttiest 1/10 of kids like me).

Tom Prichard, president of the Minnesota Family Council, which supports abstinence-only education, said he wasn't surprised by the findings, either. However, he said ENABL isn't working because it doesn't go far enough in its abstinence message. Kids should be told not just to abstain until they are adults, but rather to wait until they are married to have sex. He also said the program is not long enough or clear enough in its message that kids should also abstain from any physical or sexual contact.

In otherwords there aren't enough long "hellfire and damnation" speaches or failing that physically reenforced aversion therapy (electric shocks anyone?).

I tend to believe that sex education should be intergrated with classes like biology and health, rather than setting aside a specific class to do it. I mean, it should be treated as a normal part of a good education, rather than something super-duper special.

Well, we had sex ed in Health class itself, not as a seperate class, though most of Health was Sex Ed. Of course, our teacher didn't bother pretending that we'd be abstinant, so along with repeating over and over that abstinence was the best way to prevent your cootch from getting something nasty, she also taught us alot about safe sex, like the old "condom on a banana" demonstration and that.
