I actually love the game, though I realize its limitations. Hell I bought it when it first came out (my god how long ago) and still play it all the time.

Any way, fixing it wouldn't work. More like developing the idea and coming out with Rebellion II or something.

1. Graphics graphics graphics. Really, in this day and age, you can do better even with a strategy game.

2. Increase each system to a random amount of planets instead of just one.

3. Create two or three types of bases one can establish on a planet from secret, formal, or orbital. Each with its own pluses and negitives like stealth/defense/attack.

4. Way upgrade the tactical engine and increase the ship types (keeping with cannon ships). Hell, toss in some prequel shit to round it out.

5. Create factions. You can play Rebel/Empire but you can choose between MonCal/Bothan/Alderenian/Hapan/ect... or Imperial/Thrawn on the outer rim/CSA ect.....

Like factions can use diplomacy to 'join forces' and use each others industrial and military infastructure.

6. Rip off a decent ground combat engine something akin to 'Imperium Galactica II'. Build your own base and watch as you use ATAT's and ect. to destroy other's bases.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

I liked it...until I took Coruscant & Emperor ran his ass off to the Outer Rim...after 2 days spent on scouting planets I was bored...

Then I stuck onto a planet on which Vader was. It had 2 best planetary shields, 3-4 units of Dark Troopers...and every mission I mounted failed. I couldnt bombard it because of the planetary defenses and the planetary shield...it was fucking immune. Then I got bored with the game and put it in the drawer. I enjoyed it, even though tactical combat sucked so badly that after two battles I stopped using it...just threw in a fleet superior in strength and waited for the victory music.

The worst thing about this game is that you can literally put Empire in Rebellion's place (and vice versa) and it wouldn't make a damn difference. Apart from different units/characters (and the fact that the Empire can construct Death Stars) the two sides are...the same. The game lacked that Starwars guerilla war atmosphere, where the Rebels had to do hit&run, operate in deepest secrecy...

I rated it 6/10, Im not a big fan of strategies (it has to be really something special to keep me interested, like Close Combat series).
A nice attempt at creating a SW universe, but fucked up at some point.

Last time I played it, a long time ago, it was on easy, admittedly, and on easy it was ridiculously easy, especially when the empire defends coruscant with 6 star destroyers, and I was massing my entire fleet at Endor, in the end, swarmed in with several thousand starfighters and at least 60 capital ships. They had many shield generators and about 50 dark troopers, one general planetary bombardment later, and nothing remained on the surface... twas fun. :)

When I played the Empire, and had to find the Rebel HQ, I was so annoyed in the end, that I jumped with the Death Star to each and every system not occupied by my forces and blew it up.

I've only completed it once (Empire) and to do that i had to get a nice big fleet and go around taking over all the outer rim systems (With the occasional Death Star Attack) Took a while but ended up with just one planet with all the Rebel heroes on it.

I tend to use RebEd these days, mostly because it's really fun to give the Rebels ISDs. :D I wonder if I can even play it normally anymore at all... :?

So, of those who still play, who wants to set up a game some time? I'd love to, assuming it can work well enough on XP (maybe 98 with my current desktop, if I can make the Internet work); the computer I have it on now has no Internet.

Again I have never played this game so I do not know, are you able to build the Executor or the Eclipse? Can you go into a first person mode with people? Also what races can you be? Thanks for any help

Time to destroy your expectations I suppose... :D

Most powerful Imperial ship: Executor (Death Star doesn't count, although you can use the superlaser ROTJ-style).

First person mode: Heh, heroes are only rectangular icons. Ground combat is totally unnecessary; troops are only useful to garrison or take a planet after you bombard the defences to dust. Hell, just slag the planet (destroy all the resources or slots for buildings). I did that to the entire Corellian sector once.

Races: None, you can either be the Rebels or Imperials.

If you really want to play it and you can get it for just $4, buy it. If you don't like it, it's not much of a loss, is it?

Well being only Rebels or Imperial is ok by me since the Imperials are my favorite, but I suppose it would be better if there were more. As for the first person mode, does not bother me if it does not have one, troops I can do without. While the Eclipse is my favorite ship, the Executor is my second favorite; so this game is not all that dissapointing. One more thing promise, what are the Imperial and Rebel ships you are allowed to control? Again thanks for the help

Ironically, the only W95 game I have problems with is StarLancer, a Microsoft-published game :?

Birth of the Federation was better. Its one of the only games to buck the trend where Wars games are better than Trek games.

I was thoroughly disappointed when Rebellion came out. I expected it to be just as good as MOO2, but only in Star Wars universe. At first I actually liked playing it, but after a while its shortcomings became apparent to me. Other posters have already mentioned them, so I won't bother repeating what they've already said.

Just give me a game where I can command a single ISD, damnit!

Here's a review of the game at GameSpot. I generally agree with McDonald's opinion.
