A few new ones to add to the mix:
Cloaked smart mines that wait for enemy sheilds to go down before impacting and detonating. Sheilds are active systems ... cloaked vessels have no trouble with passive sensors. Especially useful for places like DS9 (largely imobile star bases that routinely lower sheilds as part of SOP).
Relativistic KE weapons. Fill a shuttle/missile with DLi, loads of dense metal, and as much sheilding as you can get on board. Use the DLi as fusion propulsion and accelerate the thing to hideous speed, let slam into fixed targets (planets, space stations) ... if you can use warp drive/impulse to maneuver without effecting the KE at impact ... shread enemy ships. Cheap, powerful, and deadly ... always a good combo. You could use M/AM to power the thing, but that leads to a hideous weakness if the enemy breaches your containment system.
Trans universe I&E. Use the transporter to go over to the mirror universe like was done in DS9, once there transit to your target, beam back. If you can manage to get ships there and back, well now the concept of battefront dies (assuming the enemy can't do the same or you can pick any of thousands of universes).
The best idea I've seen is some type of long range missile.
After that better fighters (with designated "carriers").

Very funny, Scotty. Now beam down my clothes.

A more efficent warp core: Doesn't bleed off the majority of the energy produced. Energy saved could be used to increase phaser power, shield power, or both.
More ergonmic hand phasers: Common sense, people.
Better equipped ground troops: Common sense again. Besides, 20th century forces were better equipped.
Before implementing new, exciting tech, implement common sense.

Yes, but adding a warhead makes it much worse. A 200 kg object at c has KE of(ignoring Relitivity cause i don't have time to do the calcs) = 9 x 10^18 Joules add a warhead with 20 kg of anti-matter gets you and extra 3.6 x10^18 Joules. How about a kinetic energy missle? no warhead; just rams you at lightspeed. Simple physics does the work for you.
Yeah, I play SFB and know it's not cannon. But it's OK to dream.

These appear a lot in Peter F. Hamilton books. Particularly effective for planetary bombardment, as a kinetic harpoon attack causes seismic shockwaves. (possibly not the most deadly of weapons, but one of the most satisfying things you can do to a planet)The Kinetic energy missle with no warhead: SAFETY No live amunition to worry about-something Star Blech would need for a plot device...smack.
You don't want to aim for the head though, you want to aim for the torso. The head is a much smaller target. Hence why they teach "aim for the center mass"kojikun wrote:I know what would be really useful. A gun that uses actual bullets, and officer training that teaches them to AIM FOR THE FUCKING HEAD
