On Wednesday there is going to be a lecture by a Gunnar Dieckmann. he is a Ph D in chem from U of Wis madison. He wants to try and prove that science gives evidence for god. This is put on in one of the larger conference rooms on campus and is open to the public.

Right now i am sure you are laughing yourself silly but it is true. This guy thinks he has evidence for god.

i plan on going there with others (drunk mind you) to laugh critisize and generally make him uncomfortable. Normally I would try and debate him, but ridicule and heckling is much more fun.

...but it will be interesting to see if the guy at least tries to present something original or at least clever instead of the usual variations on Intelligent Design or the dozen or so different tautologies often invoked as "proof".

Take it from me (I've heckled Jesse Duplantis), the best way is to listen for a while and then work in silly comments, like "hallelujah!!" and "Praise the lord!". In your case open mockery will only get you ejected. Ask pertinent questions that will require a straight no shit answer. If they try to dodge, then mock mercilessly.

And yes I was ejected from the auditorium for heckling Jesse Duplantis. Though I wasn't that bad, as though he is a fundie he doesn't spread racism and hatred like that fucker Falwell. If Falwell ever visits Tasmania, he will taste my wrath.

I'll try not to get that wasted before I go then. And will bring a pen and notebook. But if he gets really stupid, the heckling will DEFINITLY start.

I would actually find it interesting.
However, if his arguments are filled with as many holes as the usual "arguments" for the existence of a god/goddess, then they wouldn't be worth attention.

There is no such thing as evidence for a creator, since all attempts to produce such "evidence" fall into X categories:

Unsolved mystery fallacy: you cannot explain X mysterious phenomenon with your science, so we should immediately assume divine intervention (formally, this would be a false dilemma fallacy).
Biblical science: attempt to prove that the Bible (or some other religious literature) is correct, usually by identifying valid facts and then forming hasty generalizations. This is invariably followed by the appeal to authority, which 99% of these charlatans think is perfectly logical.

The only question is which type of "evidence" he will use: #1, designed for Vague Gods, or #2, designed for fundie morons.

Hm ... odd. Last year I remember some chemistry professor holding some lecture about how a scientists could "love God" or other such nonsense. You never hear of people with Ph.D's in physics doing this kind of stuff... :D

Either way, I know plenty of people who can think rationally about virtually any topic aside from their religion, because years of indoctrination has given them an intellectual blind-spot with respect to their faith.

Well I didn''t make it to the lecture. I went to see Red Dragon with my Girlfriend. But my roommate did go. He said it was nothing more than intelligent design with psuedoscience mixed in.
