Our greatest risk is not terrorism and it's not Iraq or the "Axis of Evil." Our greatest risk is a lack of leadership, a lack of honesty and a complete lack of consciousness. Unfortunately our current government cannot see the big picture. They think too small. They suffer from the "what's in it for me?" syndrome. The simple truth is that the current administration has squandered incredible opportunities to bring the world together, to promote peace in regions that have only known war, to encourage health in places that are ravaged with disease, to make us more secure by living up to our principles at home and abroad. The simple truth is that the policies of our current administration do not reflect what is great about America.
She can say whatever she wants, i don't care about that. What pisses me off is when celebrity opinions are viewed as more important that that of everyone else's simply because they are famous, for whatever reason. The bright side however is that most of the time, celebrities regardless of what side of the political spectrum they are on, end up making an ass out of themselves when they go political.

Wow, Madonna doesn't like the labor party any more?
Oh wait, she's not British. With the accent and all, I keep forgeting. She means the US goverment. *smacks forehead*
Over all, it is a wonderfully vague comment with NO specifics on either why the current goverment is lacking leadership or dishonest or any other charge she levels. It is also, conveniently, missing on any thing resembling solutions rather just fluff and handwaving.
All and all, just stupid ramblings that are not newsworthy. Perhaps if she made them nude while smooching with Spears, they'd make more sense.

These cookie-cutter criticisms of celebrities could easily be applied to anyone with an opinion.
"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

frankly, i think it's stupid for celebrities to come out with radical political statements beacuse it almost immediately alienates a percentage of their potential fan base. Not that Madonna said anything of real substance. Juat look at what heppened to the Dixie Chicks and Tom Selleck and Sean Penn etc...etc...etc....

When am _I_ going to get to voice my opinion on world politics and have it aired all over the world? When that happens, then maybe I'll care about what she's saying.

Madonna has her right to an opinion.
I also have my right to my opinion about her.
That opinion is that she's a 2 bit skank who probably has STD's that science doesn't even have names for yet, much less cures.
FWIW, I think celebrities ought to think a little before opening their mouths on issues, regardless of their political leanings.
Madonna comes off as a vapid idiot who is reciting something verbatim that she read somewhere on the Internet.

In other words, you're dismissing out of hand an opinion that doesn't agree with yours, apparently for no other reason than the person who's saying it is a liberal. Way to go.

It might have been a good decision on Madonna's part to make the statement vague. If she had been more precise in her criticism, she would probably have received a lot of flak. (just look at all hostility which other celebrities have been met with when they voiced their opinions)

WTF are you talking about?
I'm dismissing her opinion because she's an amoral slimeball who has 'reinvented' herself so many times, she wouldn't know sincerity if it came up and bit her in the ass.
The fact that she's a liberal has nothing to do with it.

If Madonna wants to do something about the 'lack of honesty at the White House, endorsing General 'Character Issues' Clark isn't the way to go about it.
Hell, he was basically forced to retire after lying to to Joint Chiefs and to the SecDef. If that's Madonna's idea of leadership, honesty, and consciousness, then she's even more of an airhead idiot than I first thought possible.
Being a liberal has nothing to do with her being an idiot.

Where does all this hatred of celebrities having political views come from? If you had microphones shoved in your face routinely, wouldn't you be voicing your political views? Hell, if I ever become famous, I'm taking every chance I get to tell everyone how fucking stupid the Drug War is.

I would just like to see some evidence of this claim that celebrities' opinions are taken more seriously than those of regular people.
My personal beef is with celebrities such as news anchors, who really do have unjustified personal credibility in the eyes of many (let's face it; when Dan Rather said things, people took them much more seriously). But that unjustified trust of news anchors does not extend to music celebrities or actors.

Oh, I'm sure that her statement was run through with a microscope to make sure that there wasn't a shred of clarity on any issue. Thats the point.
Honestly, if she came out with a speach detailing her position, I might not agree with her, but I'd give her points on actualy making a position.

Thats my point. If she actually had any merits in her statement, I'd judge it more kindly. But by god, what the hell is in that statement besides the fact that she supports Clark. Most of that is vague handwaving about the evils of the current administration.
But it won't happen. They cleanse it until it says nothing substancial to make sure they can backpeddle like there is no tomarrow. And to clearify now, celeberties of both sides of the political spectrum do it so it is not a liberal or conservitive thing.

They're viewed more important because people know them and are given airtime? I understand that perfectly. It doesn't mean a damn about its validity. I also don't understand this arrogance by wankers towards these people who voice their opinions. If they really dislike the point, take it apart. If they make a mistake they are no more culpable than a person who doesn't share the limelight. I suppose some people just wait and hope that those that have more than they do falter so as to claim some sense of superiority in their minds.

How do you know they nod in agreement?
From looking over at wilwheaton's site for instance. Reading through his comments, shows that there exists a diversity of opinion. Granted it's just one example. But I have a hard time accepting your claim as status quo. Especially without any evidence. It's probably not quite the same when dealing with people like 'rush'. But these artists aren't primarily politically inclined. Their career doesn't necessarily revolve around that.

Sounds like have an inferiority complex going there. I personally don't give a damn how another person supposedly feels when stating their opinion. An opinion exists to be shared, and at your discretion picked apart.
If she supports Clark, I wonder if she's read his book. Clark is equally as candid about Bush in pressing that America has interests to protect - and even goes so far as to use the word "empire" to describe this network of commitments and influence. He is likewise commited to exerting influence over these territories, allies, and opponents, though he proposes that he would not be as blatant as Bush in the justification.
This brings me back to VH1's statement on actors who decide to sing.
