Droid in Anakin's custom fighter
I just noticed that the droid in Anakin's custom fighter is placed directly in front of the cockpit, instead of in the wing. Can anyone tell if that's enough space for a full droid, or would it still be truencated? And can you even call that a customization? It would be less work to build that thing from the ground up and make it look vaguely like the Delta-7 then to replace every single component, including most of the hull.

Check the AOTC ICS. The droid got smashed somehow, and Anakin saved it and directly encorporated the droid into the structure of the Aethersprite interceptor. This was used as a basis for astromech-compatibility in the whole line of starfighters.Dr. Curtis Saxton's Interview on theForce.net wrote:Were there any other gaps you had to fill in from the script?

I was of the impression that that was referring to Obi-wan's slightly customized Aethersprite seen in AOTC, which obviously would not fit a full-sized droid. I was referring to Anakin's fighter from the Clone Wars Cartoon.

Re: Droid in Anakin's custom fighter
Whoever came up with that "modified" starfighter was an idiot. Sorry, you can't sit in a garage and build an improved TOMCAT from scratch which doesn't even follow the airframe of the original.Alan Bolte wrote:I just noticed that the droid in Anakin's custom fighter is placed directly in front of the cockpit, instead of in the wing. Whatever. Its gotta be a total rebuild on request of some Republic engineers.

You and I both know that's more reasonable, but it's technically speculation. I propose that Anakin helped create the craft, but was not personally responsible for the entirety. It should be noted that he had legendary force-assisted mechanical ability.Illuminatus Primus wrote:Whoever came up with that "modified" starfighter was an idiot. There's nothing in this entry to say he built it himself in a garage, but I wouldn't be surprised if he could trick out his fighter like a car. He *did* build a protocol droid after all

He may simply have made use of some volume built into the design specifically for future upgrades. That's done heavily with modern warships, and to a lesser extent military aircraft.

IIRC there was something somewhere about him having overseen the design of his TIE fighter as well.Vympel wrote:There's nothing in this entry to say he built it himself in a garage, but I wouldn't be surprised if he could trick out his fighter like a car. He *did* build a protocol droid after all
