I'm sure that's a big consolation to the people who went on a date with the guy once ten years ago and have their door broken down and are cuffed at gunpoint at 3am (I shit you not, this is a true story and it happens often).Illuminatus Primus wrote:Yup, a loophole if you jump on bail.
But really, you've cheated the legal system if you're bail jumping, so I don't really mind them assraping you if you're a chickenshit like that.

Well those ones should be arrested and prosecuted.
By and large--statistically speaking, their fuck up rate is actually lower than that of cops...every year lawsuits try to make their trade illegal, so they try not to arse it up.

If you want more on this, a Google search will easy reveal several complaints about this type of behavior. 60 Minutes has done a half dozen pieces on the bounty hunter issue of the years, and much of the problems still remain despite proposed legislation against archaic bounty hunter powers.Leslie Hagin, Legislative Director of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers wrote: Even though some bounty hunters are ex-convicts, or have otherwise been in trouble with the law, they enjoy broader powers to arrest fugitives than do police officers.
They can legally break into a home without a warrant or probable cause, and can violently arrest, shackle, imprison and even transport suspects across state lines with impunity. Because they are acting as privatized law enforcement officers, bounty hunter abuse of innocent citizens is law enforcement abuse, plain and simple.

Well given their failure to pay fines on their "Price Manipulation", technically they can be considered a "Currupt Organization"Ender wrote:I'm curious, what is the difference between this and a mafia type intimidation shakedown?
The scariest folk song lyrics are "My Boy Grew up to be just like me" from cats in the cradle by Harry Chapin

I can already see the next target - used CD stores. Think about it, unlike records and cassettes, CDs don't degrade when you play them, they might get scratched up a bit but that's it, they'll still sound the same after you play them 1000 times. There's a pretty healthy market in 2nd hand CDs, stores selling used CDs have popped up all over the place in Toronto over the last 10 years or so. As far as I know record companies and artists don't get a single cent from used CD sales, and I wouldn't be surprised if the RIAA goes after them next.

Say, do you want it to be a threesome with your wife? Or a foursome with your wife and sister-in-law? I'm up for either.

One got hit in the Tampa Bay area -- they were accused of selling copies or something like that. I don't recall of what happened afterwards, but they're still in business.aerius wrote:I can already see the next target - used CD stores. I'm Canadian, the RIAA can kiss my ass. In Canada we had a bit of controversy when used CD stores first opened about 12-15 years ago, there were news reports on them discussing legal issues & royalties but nothing ever came of it. They've pretty much become accepted where I live, and there are many record stores here that sell both new and used CDs.Peregrin Toker wrote:I know it's been said many times before, but...

Can't they be charged with rackeetering then? The Yosemite Bear wrote:Well given their failure to pay fines on their "Price Manipulation", technically they can be considered a "Currupt Organization"Ender wrote:I'm curious, what is the difference between this and a mafia type intimidation shakedown?

Why do I get the feeling that this is the start of one of those sci-fi megacorps that have their own private armies?

Mobs do not actually use force to get money out of people. They actually set up payment plans and stuff if the person cannot presently afford to pay, and they only threaten force very rarely if they know the guy is shafting them. Not even the mob is this bad.
