Bad news for Chrono Trigger Fans
Dalton (and any other CT fans), I'm sorry to break the news to you but Square-Enix has given up their Chrono Break trademark. Details here.
It basically says that Square-Enix was never seriously working on a third Chrono Trigger game, and may never develop such a game. This may be possibly the worst news I've heard thusfar this year, so you'll have to excuse me while I go bawl my eyes out.

Fuck yes. Get a copy of Final Fantasy Chronicles to start you off (Playstation port of Chrono Trigger, along with Final Fantasy IV thrown in for good measure), then get Chrono Cross (another PS1 game) which is the sequel.Stravo wrote:I've heard only good things about this game. Wait these are console games? Is there a PC version as I only own a battered PS1 somehwere in a closet. The Kernel wrote:Fuck yes. I wouldn't give up total hope just yet. Considering that Square and Enix are now one company, that's twice as many people who would want to see another Chrono game (even though Enix only worked on Chrono Trigger).Dalton wrote:Fucking son of a bitch. My sister's gonna be devastated.
The article just says that the never have seriously developed it up to this point, but from some of the comments made by Utematsu a few months back, it is clear that there is still interest in creating the game. It might take a few years, but its obvious the fan base is still there.

No PC version, but both Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross are availibile on the Playstation. Chrono Trigger was originally an SNES game, but I still recommend getting the PS1 version since it contains extra animated cutscenes that add a lot of depth to the game.Stravo wrote: Wait these are console games? Thanks Kernel, I think I'll go dig it out this weekendThe Kernel wrote:No PC version, but both Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross are availibile on the Playstation. You may have to hunt down a bit for FFC(that and loading on that beast sucks)Stravo wrote:Thanks Kernel, I think I'll go dig it out this weekendThe Kernel wrote:No PC version, but both Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross are availibile on the Playstation. But they are fun whimsical RPGs...so dig up that old PS1 and fire it up....if not they are at most $40-50 for the PS1 and $30 for the game(and you get another game to boot)
Cartwise...I have the orginal in good condition...so if I ever get desperate...much like many a comic....nah never will.

Here
It's a little pricey at $40, but well worth it since you get two classic games.
EDIT: They also have Chrono Cross Here for a reasonable $18. Well worth it.

My sister has an original CT cart, and of course we both have the SNES ROM (which is legal since we have the cart). She will not part with it for any amount of money. It is a treasured object. She has Magus tattooed on her leg.
I've been considering picking up FFC, too. But yeah, CT is well worth it if you're into RPGs since it's the greatest RPG ever made.
Chrono Cross wasn't as good for me though.

i only hope that they do decide to ultimately make the third installment. it'd be much nicer to see than another final fantasy. long as they don't make the mistake they did with chrono cross and put in all those characters.

If you haven't played CT on the PS1, then you should certainly pick it up. The load times for the menu are bad, but the animated sequences, though a little rough, are great, as are the extra features (art and such). Particularly nice are the new animated ending sequences, but I won't give them away (suffice to say they add quite a lot ).
A few months ago I heard about SquareEnix releasing Final Fantasy Chronicles under the greatest hits label; I don't know if this is true, but if it is you'll save a LOT of money on Chrono Trigger, plus get the excellent FFIV as well.
All right, here you go.
Directly from SquareEnix.

Read up in the thread a bit.Joe wrote:A few months ago I heard about SquareEnix releasing Final Fantasy Chronicles under the greatest hits label; I don't know if this is true, but if it is you'll save a LOT of money on Chrono Trigger, plus get the excellent FFIV as well.
Okay, so that everyone knows this, Final Fantasy Chronicles has a port of the SNES version of Chrono Trigger. In addition it has a number of extras including animated cutscenes (good ones, although the frame rate is low) and a ton of extras including art, bestiaries, etc. The translation is the same as the SNES (althought FF IV has been heavily rewritten).
Go here for the Gamespot review.

Pic?
I loved Chrono Trigger, and I'm not even an RPG fan. It was just good. Great music, too.

I have a CT cart as well.
Come to think of it, I'd better grab it next time I'm home. I'd hate for my mom to sell it for 50 cents in a garage sale, thinking I no longer need it.
