I've started watching Sex and the City's new season. I've been a faithful fan since its inception years ago and this looks like it's off to a great start. I like what they are doing with the characters, natural progressions and evolutions plus some serious health concerns. The girls look as beautiful as ever (especially my favorite, Charlotte) and I'm looking forward to see how they wrap this up.

On the opposite end of my happy scale is Curb your Enthusiasm. I am mildly amused by this show but have despised Larry David's character on the show. I don't give a shit what happens to him and most of it has to do with the fact that he is a walking charactecture of the stereotypical neurotic Jew. GOD it is so annoying to see him in action (same complaint I had with Seinfeld). Maybe to the rest of the country this is a new and never before seen character but the streets of NYC are crammed with these whining fucktards that make both normal folks and fellow Jews cringe.

Six Feet Under started out strong this last year but ended in a weird place emotionally and story wise. I did not see the wife being killed coming but it feels sort of odd. Like it was writer's fiat and not a natural progression of what we've seen. I like the feel of the charcaters in teh story, they feel authentic and not written plus we finally have a normal and postive hispanic character that does not trot his heritage out every five minutes, speaks with an accent or do any of the other hack writing tool things to let the audience know that this is a hispanic character

Sopranos starts in March - nuff said!

Sienfeld worked because it had four neurotic, whining, unlikable characters who ended up failing in their every endeavor thanks to their own character flaws. Curb Your Enthusiasm doesn't work because it has a neurotic, whining, unlikable character who's filthy rich and successful despite his flaws. Nobody, but nobody, wants to watch a show about a rich whiner except other rich whiners.

THANK YOU. I forgot the rich part because that bugs me all the time. There was an episode about him buying a MULTI MILLION DOLLAR HOUSE and I was disgusted because how could I connect with someone whose big issue is where to buy his multimillion dollar home? UGH.

as far as the Sopranos and Six Feet Under, those shows have some of the most creative writers in television history. The cast on both shows are phenominal as well.

But yeah, while Sex and the City might be fun to watch (and that one brunette chick is cute), I agree with the Crackpot's sentiments.

Stravo, I didn't know any guys watched "Sex and the City." Unless you are following the maxim "know thine enemies."

I've never watched more than several moments at a time of Sex and the City, but my impression is that young women find it empowering and love it (every white girl in her 20s and early 30s I know watches it) and try to emulate the women on that show, who are sophisticated and independent and use boyfriends like fashion accessories, discarding them on a whim. Almost like "Fight Club" for materialistic, gold-digger, single women.

Many young women, attempting to overcome insecurities, present the facade that they "are with it" and "know what's going on" by trying hard to appear as if they should be characters on that show, when in fact they end up looking like they have all the poise, aplomb, and sophistication of "Jersey girls." It's way too common to meet some dull girl who utlilizes "Sex and the City" as a basis for their cheaply bought social savvy.

No, I can appreciate a well written and laugh out loud funny show. There are some very New York moments on that show. Yes, I am aware that the circle these women run in can be grating and annoying but its still funny to watch and the things these women want is the same thing most 30 something women want. It's interesting to see the portrayal of men in that show, there are good and bad men, I've never once thought of the show as male bashing.

I can acknowledge the critiques of the show and still enjoy it.

As for Sopranos, I can't fucking wait to see Steve Buscemi as Tony's cousin. I just hope they don't turn him into another disposable pain-in-the ass like Richie Aprile or Ralphie.
