Managing to get decent framerates after some hefty cutting back of detail (and it still looks better than most games out there) and am loving the Su-25. Fear the Frogfoot for it brings 80mm rocket death to your armoured columns.
And I fear MANPADS. I hate them. Nothing worse than coming to the end of an attack run, banking away, ditching flares, then the moment you stop dumping flares some bastard decides that its time to launch a stinger at you. Of course your TWR doesn't twig to it until you suddenly have one less wing- goddamnit.
Conclusion: This game is the shit.
LO:MAC is cool (or why I hate Stingers)

I'm finding the SU-33 to be a very fascinating experience in the sim.!Mmmm, Russian aircraft carrier landings...*drool*
Hmmm, in the sim, the F-15C's radar is programmed to burn through most Russian ECMs at around 10nm. Now, some are claiming that this is too low for it's powerful radar, but Eagle Dynamics (the developer) is sending mixed signals on whether this is a feature or a bug.
Does anyone know the F-15C radar's average burnthrough distance on the newer Russian ECMs that are commonly deployed on most Russian aircraft? Not some super high-tech lab prototype ECM, but a modern ECM system typically used on, say, the SU-27, Mig-29 or SU-33?

Lock On disappointed me.
I've been waiting for this game, drooling over the reviews and screens and when I finally get it I can't play it. First, I had to wait for the patch - I've got windows98. When I installed the patch, I ran on medium details, but the game was slooooow and choppy. Not to mention some serious controler bugs, like my joystick's force feedback centering doesnt work on the left side...among other things.
Took the details down to low...and still runs choppy from time to time. I've got an Athlon XP+2000, Radeon 8500. 256mb ddr on a good gigabyte mainboard. Not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but most games run fine.
Until I have my computer upgraded and the game will be fixed to a playable level, Im forgetting about this piece of shitty programming. Flanker 2 is one of the best sims out there and I expected something better from a programming team. And Im glad I dloaded the game off the net, saved some money.
Back to Flanker 2...

Just because your computer is not up to snuff doesn't mean it's shitty programming mate. I haven't seen any new flight sim that doesn't rape my computer if my PC is more than a year old. It's just the way things go. Win 98 performance is unfortunate, but really, it's a shitty OS.
Like Legend of Galactic Heroes? Please contribute to http://gineipaedia.com/
Oh yeah, blame it all on my "shitty" OS.
They did some lousy programming, moreover they explicitly stated on the box that the game is "Win98 compatible".
Besides, Windows 98 uses less system resources by default, which also means better performance for games.
Of course every new flight sim is rough on hardware. Same was with Flanker 2, Il2, Flight Unlimited and on and on...
But that doesn't excuse the programmers to make the game playable for people with lower end systems. I could tune down Il2 settings so it was playable, same with Flanker 2...and most other games.
But no matter what I do with Lomac...its still unplayable.
But even so, that isn't my point.
The game is BUGGY. I said to myself "screw graphics" - and tried to play the game. You know what happened? I had porpoise control effect on almost all training missions, along with a funny syndrome that prevents me from maintaining level flight. I tweaked with the control options and it didn't go away. I couldn't even 'get into' the game.
This game needs another six months for betatesting but no...they wanted Christmas $$$. And that what pains me the most. Since I have better priorities for my cash, I'll probably play LOMAC next year, when they will kill the bugs and my system can run it. Big, big disappointment.

Make sure your water effects are on low. That's the primary fps killer in the game.
Myself, I'm running an AMD 2600, 1gb RAM PC2700, Radeon 9700 Pro, and everything on 12x9, 2xFSAA, 4xAnsio with all on high except for water and HUD mirrors, which are on low. Campaigns get me 14-22fps mostly. Oh, and be sure to turn of sound acceleration, as it's unoptimized in the game.
