Now there's something even worse than the whole beret thing.

Re: U.S Army Class A uniform survey
I thought some of the color schemes they were suggesting for the current uniforms were drifting a little close to Imperial, WWII German and US Navy (officer) uniforms.jegs2 wrote: The futuristic uniforms leave some room for improvement. I'd rather see SW Imperial uniforms, given the option. Can't believe they actually put those choices in there.
Actually, I'm perfectly happy with the uniforms I have, because if they change, I've got to buy new ones, and I ain't made of money. Investing in the new PT uniforms was bad enough...
I voted to leave them as they are for the very reason you mention. If they want to change the color of the shirt I could go for that. Otherwise leave it alone.
The Navy changed it's uniforms to all that bell bottom crap when Reagan became president. Some bits of the uniforms that were around before got to stay around for use in some what altered forms. I can't imagine going from normal looking clothes with straight pants and a tie to having to shell out big bucks for 13 buttoned, laces up the back, bell-bottomed, crackerjack looking , bib on the back, stoopid neckerchief uniform.
![What the fuck? :wtf:](./images/smilies/wtf.gif)
The only way the Army could match that is to pick one of those Trek looking uniforms and go for it now.

What's wrong with the beret? Other then the Rangers getting pissed? I think it looks better then the garrison cap.RogueIce wrote:*shrugs*Wicked Pilot wrote:What the hell is up with the Army and their damn image problem these days?

Personally, I wouldn't want to piss off a bunch of Rangers. But that's just me.Solid Snake wrote:What's wrong with the beret? Other then the Rangers getting pissed? I think it looks better then the garrison cap.

Anyway, berets in the US military have been traditionally associated with "elite" units (Rangers, Airborne, Special Forces, and I do believe Air Force PJs, if not more)*. So, to have everyone Joe Schmoe in the Army now have a beret cheapens that. Not to mention the dumbass idea of making the regular beret black and switching the Rangers to tan. They should've given regular Army tan and kept the Rangers with black (those tan berets are the dumbest looking things I have ever seen...I feel really bad for them).
That, and garrison caps are used (in one form or another) by every single other branch of the US military. Why the fuck should the Army be so different?
*Actually, females in the Navy apparently get to wear berets as well, but I have never seen this happen. But, it can, I believe. I have heard stories of their use, but that story was only because the female commander ordered it, and it doesn't seem to be a very widespread thing. And their berets look funny anyway.
