The only thing that irked me in this episode was how easily Enterprise got away. This alien station had very advanced technology: powerful replicators, transporters, a powerful computer. To think that it would have been suckered by "warp plasma" rigged to be a time bomb was rather far-fetched. One would think that it would have just beamed the thing out to space after using its advanced sensors to detect it. Shouldn't it have some internal security technology too? It was way too easy for Archer and T'Pol to just blast in and rescue Mayweather.
Overall, this wasn't too bad an episode. I had no problems with the replicators. Afterall, it was advanced alien technology. Looking at the alien tech, I would infer that in the Trek universe, almost all species advance their technology in a very similar direction. All major Alpha Quadrant in 24th century had transporters and replicators. Warp speed is attained using the "nacell" design. However, this "convergent" technological advance is somewhat unrealistic. But since B&B are kinda lacking in imagination, I can't expect much, can I?

Good Trek, continuity and Voyager all in the same thought.
That episode really did upset you.

The only part I didn't like was the bit with the torpedoes. For supposedly being so powerful that they might damage the ship shooting at something so close they seemed pretty weak to me.
It was interesting that the almost totally destroyed stating started putting itself back together at the end. I'm betting that it was a throw away though.
It was nice to see the damage from last week's episode causing them some major problems (even if they weasled out of it this week).
I also liked Archer chewing some ass and confining Trip and Malcom to their quarters, even if it never happened because the next emergency.
Personally, I find it kind of funny that people get so upset about Enterprise after 7 years of Voyager. That show still pisses me off and I didn't even watch that many episodes.

Yeah. ENT's weapons are a real odd sort.Master of Ossus wrote:That Enterprise could not destroy that crappy pylon with a single torpedo, while it damaged itself heavily with the same weapon, indicates that its armor is pathetic compared with the station (remember that it was still "polarized").
First, the tactical officer tells us that a "phase cannon" have
a maximum "power output" of 500 gigajoules (I assume he means
that's the amount of energy used in a standard length discharge
of a few seconds?). Later, he finds a way to boost the output
by a factor of ten, giving ENT a potential fwd. firepower of several
hundred gigawatts, perhaps a TW or two.
Uhh...what the fuck? In TNG, Riker said the gigantic E-D couldn't
generate ONE terawatt. I always took that line to mean that the
ship's fusion reactors, which were the primary source of power for
all systems except warp, couldn't equal a terawatt...or, at least,
the systems themselves might've consumed terawatts but efficiency
limited them to something less.
Now, this little tiny primitive ship can put more power behind its weapons
than the E-D could circa "The Dauphin"?! Phasers are more effective
weapons, operating in "efficiencies" far beyond what they should.
But phase cannons evidently involve some kind of phaser-like chain reaction, too, as evident in their weapon test against a small moon.
(Archer, probably exaggerating, noted, "You blew up something
the size of Mt. McKinley earlier.")
Comparatively speaking, these weapons do far more damage than
ENT's torpedoes, so much so that one wonders why they even USE
torpedoes at all. Range? Psh. No: they use torpedoes at very close
ranges. I don't think it's an issue of firing arcs or powering up the
phase cannons, either, since the cannons have a decent field of
coverage and don't seem to require *that* much charging time.
These torpedoes do seem capable of tracking a target somewhat
better than photorps, but they move so SLOW...it's painful to watch.
IIRC, one of those torps was intercepted once in combat (by a ship
that apparently only I thought looked unmistakably Breen--awesome,
pointy, mean-lookin' thing).
What really burns me up is the fact that a Klingon battlecruiser apparently
outguns ENT many times over, probably even with the phase cannons.
That'd make Klingon weapons well into the low terawatt range, at least.
So, what the hell? I tend to peg TNG-era weapons in the hundreds of
kT to a megaton or two, yet phasers are STILL limited to a few TW or
so against hull armor. That's too damn weird.
Pain, or damage, don't end the world, or despair, or fuckin' beatin's. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, ya got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man ... and give some back.

They should have used the phase cannons on the arm. And did they even arm those torpedo's or just used the blunt force of impact to break the arm in half?
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong
But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

In all fairness, they warned of possible damage, but no damage was seen or reported.Master of Ossus wrote:That Enterprise could not destroy that crappy pylon with a single torpedo, while it damaged itself heavily with the same weapon, indicates that its armor is pathetic compared with the station (remember that it was still "polarized").

The best way to watch Star Trek is to just ignore what the characters say about technology, numbers, and history. Pay more attention to the plot. Unfortunately, true ingenuity and imagination seemed to have died with Roddenbury.
Just for the record, I believe TNG was the best Star Trek series. And my favorite episode was the one where Riker fell in love with an androgenous alien. The persecution of gender identification mirrored very much with the real life persecution of homosexuals. Seeing this persecution put into another context was very fascinating.

They're just beyond hope and beyond contempt
Let's face it: by next year, they'll have the whole deal. They've already got time travel in the plot, everybody and their moronic third cousins in the galaxy except for Earth has cloaking technology. They've already given the Enterprise phasers and transporters, and now we're seeing replicators, holodecks, and Ferengi. It will take only one more year before all the excess baggage from the TNG era filters into Boobyprise. And you know Brannon Braga is just itching to do another of his technobabble/space anomaly of the week extravaganzas (probably just by recycling bits from his various TNG-season 7 and Voyager scripts). The characters, such as they are, are more or less the same interchangeable set of cardboard standees and blow-up dolls we've come to expect from the Franchise.
They may just as well have kept Mulgrew and co. on board and simply made the new series Voyager: The Next Degeneration.

No, there was a terminal explosion on the bridge when the first torpedo hit, consistent with other incidents in ST when a ship has been damaged by weapons fire.Howedar wrote:In all fairness, they warned of possible damage, but no damage was seen or reported.Master of Ossus wrote:That Enterprise could not destroy that crappy pylon with a single torpedo, while it damaged itself heavily with the same weapon, indicates that its armor is pathetic compared with the station (remember that it was still "polarized").

Too late, the holodecks were in Season 1. (Some aliens had them, as I recall.)anarchistbunny wrote:Oh for the love of god, make a fucking show after Voyager. Weren't those called "food dispensers", and didn't they simply dispense some kind of edible colored plastic cube thing?Sam Or I wrote:Just for the record the original DID have food repilicators, they look red drawers, they only showed them in one episode quickly.
