Rock bands I own albums by
Jethro Tull
King Crimson
Pink Floyd
Red Warszawa (danish punk/thrash band)

Artists I consider acquiring albums by:
The Darkest Of The Hillside Thickets
Iron Maiden
Jimi Hendrix (my father has some Hendrix tapes IIRC, that's probably why I haven't bought any myself)
Judas Priest
Motorhead

I also listen to a lot of quasi-obscure metal, but I don't think that really qualifies as rock.

I'm sick to death of Pink Floyd. We have a classic rock station here that plays them incessantly.

Yeah, that's the thing I hate about classic rock stations endless overplay of the most "Popular" songs of only the gaints, thus you will here Darkside of the Moon, and Stairway so much you may begin to dislike both Pink Floyd and Led Zepplin, of course this will be the castrated for radio version with no long solo's....

Remind me, do you think classic rock stations will ever play "Iron Butterfly"

I'm in agreement w/ you with the bands you like, as well as the ones you despise with the exception of sublime and radiohead. I think those two bands made substantial contributions to the evolution of rock.

Bradley Nowell synthesized punk&reggae better than any musician ever will(i do hate the songs "wrong way", "date rape", and other kiddie songs that get played too much), and Radiohead's OK Computer is one of the best rock albums IMO - way ahead of its time. I do acknowledge that KidA and Amnesiac were mostly Thom Yorke's artsy-fartsy experimental indulgences but Hail to the Thief was one of the best Albums to come out in 2003.

My question is: Do you dislike Sublime and Radiohead because how they're over-hyped and some of their die-hard fans tend to be obnoxious supremacists in touting their band's pre-eminance, or do you really find their music dull and mediocre and w/o any quality?

Well if you like Sublime and Incubus I recommend you try 311, (pronunced three-eleven). Incubus toured with them about four years ago before incubus got big. 311's one of those bands thats been around for awhile (early 90's) has a large dedicated group of fans and gets no air time on MTV, MTV2 or even Fuse.

It's kind of funny, they've released there first major label record in 93 and have put out 7 albums total now, plus a live CD and a compilation of there indepent albums.

Hope I'm not sounding too much like a fanwhore but it is my favorite band and it's kind of surprising how few people have any clue who they are. Especially since of all the concerts I've been too none of them are as coola s a 311 concert, you just can't beat the fans and the atmosphere.
