Help identifying a song

Post by Kuja »

I was listening to 96.9 at work today, a station that plays a lot of classic rock, and a really cool song came on that made me stop what I was doing and listen. Unfortunately, the DJ didn't say the name of it. Iv'e heard this song several times before and I absofuckinglutely love it, but to my frustration, I've never heard the name or artist announced.

Here's how it goes:

It starts off with a lot of dark, organ-like music, and a demonic voice speaking that I can't make out (sounds like its talking backwards).

The organic music then lightens a bit, and you can hear the classic "Hallelujah" chorus in the background.

Then there's a short solo with an electric guitar.

After that comes my favorite part: a guitar solo with more electric guiter wailing in the background.

The guitar solo stops and the organ music returns for a short time.

The solo starts up again and continues to the end of the song.

There's no lyrics except the Hallelujah chorus near the beginning; the song's an instrumental. I love this song, and every time it comes on the radio, I turn up the volume and enjoy every second of it. If anyone recognizes the song I'm describing, please tell me its name and who wrote/performed it.

Kuja, I know EXACTLY what song you're referring to. I unfortunately don't know the name of it either, but you might want to check the radio station's website for playlists or write them an email.

That has lovely lyrics, though.

Drinking the blood of Jesus,
drinking it right from his veins.
Learning to swim in the ocean,
learning to grow in his pain...

Or some such. It's been a very long time since I've heard it. :?

Ahem. This looks like a job for SD.net's resident ELO fan:

That would be Electric Light Orchestra's Fire On High from their 1975 album Face The Music.

FYI, the backwards speech says: "The music is reversible but time isn't. Turn back. Turn back. Turn back." Spoken by ELO's drummer, Bev Bevan.

And I guess it doesn't lead into "Roundabout?" That's the only classic rock song I know that has organ & the Hallelujah chorus.

PS: Nevermind. :D

Don't you hate it how the radio stations will almost never tell you the song, sometimes they will tell you the last few songs they played (does anyone have an song identifier on thier car radio? I only listen to mine in the car)
