Firefly, John Doe, Smallville, Mutant X, Andromeda, Hercules, Xena, Relic Hunter, Queen of Swords, and Jack of All Trades all line up. Which do you like best, and why?

Personally it's Firefly, Andromeda, and John Doe. Smallville is at the very bottom.

I like Smallville like a hundred times more than Kirkules... and that's saying a lot because I truly, really hate the Superman character with every single fiber of my being.

I haven't seen the other shows here. Firefly looks nice, I think they'll be airing it here soon.

Firefly, its the only one that doesn't insult my intelligence/bore me to tears. It's something relatively new and interesting. It's got good characters, action, and the kind of wit and humor that once made Buffy great.

Andromeda was watchable but no longer, I'd watch it if there was nothing better on. But not any more.

Andromeda.
None of the rest are worth watching...
I've never seen Firefly though so judgement is out on that one.

It's good.

And how can you stand to watch Hercules in Space?

Firefly. It has space hookers. Okay it also has good characters, good character development, good action, a good plot, and good humor. But it also has space hookers. Space hookers make everything good.

Actually they are intelligent. The technical term is Companion. In other words highly trained and highly skilled space hookers. They go to an academy and everything.

The first season and first half of the second season for Andromeda were good. But after that point they fired the person who basically was making the series because they didn't like continuity (I shit you not) and wanted episodes that were much more stand alone.

Andromedea wasn't bad the first season, it really died for me when they gave him Hurcules strength(his mother was a human from a 2x earth grav world), Hurcules quotes( "I believe man makes his own destiny"), and Hurcules's sidekick (as a avatar of a common wealth ship). Basicly became Hurcules in space. But its the only thing on at 5:00 PM on saturday so I keep watching. I like Firefly, they know how to deal with bad guys (kicking the assassin into the engines and punchin' out the hottie) Haven't watched much of John Doe but it's sounds like a good idea, Mutant X is crap, took the title and thats it, mutant powers are secondary to just fighting. Smallville is ok, but could be better. Hurcules and Xena started out ok, then got silly and shitty. Relic Hunter, wanna be Tomb Raider, general crap. Queen of Swords was worse than the final season of Xena. Jack of All Trades never got a chance to take off, could still been around if they hadn't made it 30 minutes, although it was a little repetative, dirty jokes, something happens, dirty jokes, they find out that the frenchies were responsible, dirty jokes, Cambel starts fighting frenchies, someone gets kicked in the balls, dirty jokes call credits. And by dirty I mean refering to private parts in some way, sometimes kinda funny.

You forgot some, Beastmaster, never watched much can't judge, Traker, shit, Cleopatra 2525, BOOBIES! And crap, Birds of Prey, all pilots suck, but... I'm leaning to crap but I could be swayed, and I know there are gonna do a Smallville cross over, they refered to meteor rocks, oh and metahumans, WTF?

I'd say currently I probably like Smallville the best. I always like origin stuff and this one is written pretty well.

So far I do like Firefly & John Doe but I'm not to sure Firefly is going to stick around.

Can't stand Mutant X -- Cheesy X-Men rip-off even if the courts didn't see it that way.

I liked Andromeda a lot the first season and a few episodes into the second but when it started becoming obvious that they got rid of the original producer it started going to crap. There were a few episodes that were still tolerable but the "hook" that made me want to watch the show was gone. Basically the continuity & mystery combination was diminished for more action bigger guns and less intellignent plots. I'll probably check it out again sometime this season but in my area it airs at the same time as 2 other shows I watch (Angel & Alias).

At one time I really liked Hercules. I faded a bit near the end but overall I liked that show.

I liked Xena when it started but after awhile I just couldn't take it anymore. To much catering to the Lesbian fans and there were a lot of things about the Xena character that started getting on my nerves.

Not a big fan of Relic Hunter. Never really saw Queen of Swords.

I did like Jack of All Trades even though it was mega-cheesy. I loved the theme song.

I don't know. Firefly has done decent numbers. And it has Joss Whedon's name behind it. As long as the buget remains reasonable, I think it'll make it for a good long while.

And remember Joss kept Buffy going when every one thought it'd be axed. And he had the awful movie as a strike one and two and he wasn't a "big name" yet either.

I like the show a lot but Fox has had a quick trigger finger when it comes to cancelling genre shows. Especially those on Friday nights. I always find it amazing that Fox kept the X-Files around long enough for it to become popular.

I'm hopefull that it will stick around but alot of shows that I've started watching in the past have been cancelled early in their first season so
I'm kind of warry.

Supposedly the show is pulling about the same numbers as Dark Angel was but it supposedly costs less per episode. That makes me hope that it will get at least a season to try to find an audience. It doesn't help that it is getting preempted for baseball right now though.

I'm wary myself. But it's a good show whereas Dark Angel was more of the Jessica Alba Action Hour. Fun but not something that will keep a shoow alive.

I'm just hoping that JMS gets to write an episode. He's supposed to be interested in doing one. That would absolutely kick ass!

Dark Angel Probly should of just been the occasional miniseries like the first ones where, not a accual series. They tried to do too much and when they did all the half-animal mutants it just went blah. Albas hot, but not worth it.

Let's see. For me it would be:

1 - Firefly . . . I just like it. They've made the attempt at good science, and the characters are believable. No moralistic hippie bullshit.
2 - Andromeda . . . Well, the action is cool. The characters are good, though they're occasionally prone to the same moralistic hippie bullshit spewing that Trek characters are.
3 - John Doe . . . It's nice. Weird, but nice.
4 - Hercules . . . campy Kevin Sorbo action series. Can't complain about much of it.
5 - Relic Hunter . . . Tia Carerre . . . need I say more?
The rest of your list is comprised of what is technically referred to as . . . pure shit.

Andromeda is ok and to me the only good thing about Hercules and Xena was a fins ass and kick ass female Villian named Callisto. Many fans have even said that Hudson Leick's powerful performance of her was what kept the show going. She is a much better actor than any of the boneheads that were regulars on the show.

They do put Marvel Comics in the credits. I have no idea why (else why not make an X-Men show instead of Crappola-X)

Probably as part of the settlement of a lawsuit.

The same thing happened after Harlan Ellison sued James Cameron after he stole the idea for Terminator idea from him.

I think it's produced by Avi Arad, who is like the guy who produces every Marvel animated show. But it says something like "based on stuff from Marvel" (i.e. ripoff) while it consistenly tries to be a different universe than X-Men (they got mutants but the whole world/conspiracy thing, etc, they try to avoid crossover. not that the whole thing isn't a blatant ripoff, but anyways, I was kinda expecting they AT LEAST tried to put some X-Men stuff in it like a guest character, like that cheesy X-Factor-something movie about a guy called "skin", they had two or three actual X-Men characters, plus the Institute)

Firefly is ok. Needs better directors.
Andromeda... it has truly faded in my heart.
John Doe is opposite something else I watch. Can't think of what it is, though.
Hercules and Xena were ok.

And Marvel entertainment is who Mutant X is made by.

Hrm...

Firefly is more 'Buffy' writing, and I have grown to hate both.
John Doe is the most fantastically neat new TV around, and has actually gotten me interested in watching what is basically a detective/cop show, a genre I don't like. Ditto Haunted, which no one mentioned.
Smallville, Mutant X, Hercules, Xena, Relic Hunter, Queen of Swords, and Andromeda all get lined up and shot for being tripe.
Jack of All Trades survives despite being tripe for having Ash, The Zorro Version in it.
Note: I'm semi-retired from the board, so if you need something, please be patient.

Oh yeah, speaking of Ash. I'm going to be seeing Bruce this afternoon at a book signing. If you love Bruce Campbell, make sure to read his "autobiography", If Chins Could Kill: Confessions of a B-Movie Actor. It's hilarious!

Firefly all the way baby. It has just enough cheesy to be fun and funny. If it gets cheesier as it goes along its suck factor will probably increase, that what I thought happened to Andromeada, Hercules, Xena, and the others. They started good and light and progressed to something that I couldn't stand anylonger.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red
