Post by Sarevok »

Mike Newell has said that GoF will be the most expensive movie ever to be made, costing £170 million ($308 million).

And the official news article about it is I can dress my links!
I have to tell you something everything I wrote above is a lie.

Especially since they should have had a lot of the sets and locations from the previous two movies.

There better be something new and spectacular for the third movie in a series to cost that much money. It's not like there was some huge break between films either.

So it's the Fourth movie that's supposed to be so expensive.

Good luck to them on the French school girl casting. :)

Dress that fucking link.

Paying that much to make a movie is insane. I simply have no idea how it could be that fucking expensive, unless every piece of equipment is made out of gold or something...

Well, I imagine the special effects for things like the tasks would have to be stupendous. Then there's the huge cast, and the fact it'll have to be a bloody long film..

That's just silly, I think they'll have to do this to win back the children they lost to LOTR.

I was just thinking.

Aren't there at least 4 big dragons in GoF? :D

I imagine we should at least get a good look at the one Harry comes up against.

Wow. The entire LOTR trilogy cost only in the are of $230 million. I don't think there's any way they'll be able to do anything more than break even on this film.

Well, the first two movies made about $600 million each worldwide, and $250-300 million in the US alone, but the kind of money they're asking for is still incredibly high.

I am glad Hemlock mentioned Lord of the Rings. I was thinking as I read the thread that the makers of the Harry Potter movies learned the wrong lesson from it. They seem to think that if you spend enough cash, you'll produce a great movie, not that what made it great had to do with things other than the budget, like the writing and acting. Honestly, I never thought I'd say this, but that is entirely too much money for one movie, and you know it will be overkill if they try to spend all of it. It's not my business to say how a studio should spend their money, but they could easily cut that budget in half and make a good movie or two with it.

There are no LOTR movies anymore though. So it's not like LOTR has won them forever.

What the hell? Is there gonna be a cruise liner in this film or something?

Maybe they plan on producing a real dragon from actual R&D with several biotech companies.

I can't image that would eat up three hundred million dollars for a single film. Lord of the Rings which had at least as many special effects and huge scale cast scenes but was made for a less than a hundred million per film.

And the Star Wars prequels were made for that less and, again, were on a similarly grandiose scale.

How can they possibly be spending that much money on the fourth film? They already have sets and locations and costumes and props from the previous films. They already have many of the actors under contract, so the fees for actors shouldn't be skyrocketing. LotR and SW didn't cost NEARLY that much, and frankly those were about as expensive as I can realistically see a movie being. This strikes me as being ridiculous. If they want to throw their money around, then fine, but... wow. Incidentally, why would the execs give them a green light on this? The fourth book is supposed to be one of the least popular of the novels. I can't understand why they would be spending the most money on the least popular book.

Wow...wondering where the hell the money is going to, in order be so expensive.

Is 95% of the film pure cutting edge CGI that the only real thing is Harry's wand?

Something tells me they are trying to get live Dragon's rather than CGI for this kind of money
