Good Television That Made It

Post by HemlockGrey »

In light of the revival of the melancholy "TV Concepts, We Hardly Knew Ye" thread, I thought it might be a good idea to bring up a thread about excellant television shows that made it, mostly intact, to the end of their run.

Obviously, Bablyon 5. The story was told in full, even though it slipped badly toward the end.

"The Wire" is the best show in the history of television. Watch it today.

Although FarScape was cut before it's time, they're going to finish it with a miniseries (so I heard - is there anymore information on this?) - so while it was cut, the story is going to be completed. Therefore, I'd like to say FarScape is a show that made it. Mostly. Ok, I'm reaching - maybe I'm a diehard 'Scaper! :P 8)

For its short run, Family Guy rarely missed a beat.

Seinfeld.

Its rare for a series to willingly end itself at its peak. It takes class. The only other example i can think of would be the equally-great Fawlty Towers, but the whole series only comprised of 12 episodes or so.

"My So-Called Life" should never have been cancelled.

The Simpsons is still running, and though it's declined from its peak, it's still good television.

Deep Space Nine....even though the final episode sucked horseshit...

24 is probably the best drama/suspense series on TV. Not only is it a novel concept, but the writing has been consistently awesome. Probably the most addictive show I've ever watched.

Oh, and Scrubs, too. While it's less than three years old and doesn't do well ratings-wise as the increasingly tedious Friends, I think it's only improved since its already good first season to be the funniest sitcom on TV, with some great characters. In addition to this, there's usually some sort of inspirational message to each episode that doesn't really come off as being cliched or contrived, but leaves you with a smile on your face. It throws comedy at you so quickly it doesn't need a laugh track.

CSI and CSI Miami
CSI doe not appear to be interesting to me. The FBI Files which a documentary on Discovery channels about real life cases is much better.

Aren't many of these shows still on? They are not at the end of their runs.

The Shield is an excellent series, quite different from the "white bread cop"shows that were so popular a few years ago.

A very good show that was unfortunately scheduled to air against the first season of Friends.

Spooks, no show has gripped me as much as that single one and I anticipate the new series more than 24's now.

Highlander fucking RULES!

(Spike is up to the ep where Kenny comes back and tries to get Duncan assassinated. I so want to see that kid get beheaded.....) And nobody better spoil what happens next because I've never watched the show until Spike started airing the re-runs....
