anyway, Paul usually suffices amongst close male and all female friends, Ayris (second name, and not particularly applicable to the standard addition of a 'ey' which seems to pass for nicknames at the minute), is the standard for most male friends at home, with Paul in use at Uni. Some have actually called me El Moose Monstero for a while, which was entertaining, to say the least.
Favourite abusive nickname from morons who I don't know was Willi Wonka, but I just laughed, hell, at least they were creative... bless 'em.
