Dems to deliver 1st Spanish response to State of the Union
SANTA FE, New Mexico (AP) -- Gov. Bill Richardson is to deliver a nationally televised Spanish-language response to President Bush's State of the Union speech Tuesday.
The Democratic National Committee-sponsored response will be carried by the Spanish-language Univision television network immediately following the speech.
"This is a historic moment -- the first time that a national Spanish-language response to the State of the Union is delivered," DNC Chairman Terry McAuliffe said.
The Spanish speech comes at a time when both parties are actively courting the Hispanic vote, considered crucial in the 2004 presidential contest.
Richardson, an Energy Secretary and U.N. ambassador in the Clinton administration, is among the nation's highest-ranking Hispanic politicians.

Don't be daft. More people speak Chinese but that isn't an international standard. Just because the USA has a problem with immigrants who can't speak a word of English crossing the border, doesn't mean Spanish will become the new native language.
It would be helpful if everyone spoke just one language, but that kind of homogeneity likely won't be possible for a looong time.

I have trouble believing that Bulworth was particularly insightful politically, given that its central message seemed to be that hardcore socialist principles were the ticket to electoral success for the Dems.

Well, he is talking to a Black congregation. But yes, both sides pander to special interests. I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing. I simply have a problem with the idea of an ethnic or racial special interest group.
