I don't expect you to. I'm just pointing out that the hip hop culture is hardly alone in the world when it comes to promoting attire not fit for the workplace.
Nice "false dilemma" fallacy though; perhaps it should have occurred to you that there are more than two choices.
Perhaps you should've stated as much. So given that lovely pic of your family would you recommend that I go into an interview wearing a white T-shirt and shorts? Your argument, silly as it is, implies that hip hop fans don't own suits or are unable to conduct themselves in a job interview. I await your counter-argument.
 This from someone who does not have a job or a family.
Get back to me in March on that, but not the family part. I'm not terribly interested in that kind of life.

Yeah, I heard about this. My cousins are heading down the Dominican Republic to try and start a label.
On the island I grew up on there aren't any neighborhoods that are remotely comparable to a North American ghetto, despite what some people down there would have you believe. In addition, the local culture is quite dissimilar. The only thing that could be called is hip hop about me might be my casual wardrobe.
Cool, what island you from?

No, I will not. I find it extremely annoying when people do that on MBs for some reason.

Well, I grew up in it. I've been running on emcee circuits for something like ten years now. Used to break dance when I was a kid, and I've started building up a vinyl collection to get my third element in.
I'm wondering if it truly affects your lifestyle, because everyone I know that really gets into rap, R&B and hip-hop typically ends up becoming more and more like the artists they most like.
I imagine there's a little role model influence involved, but I can't tell you objectively. I haven't known much else culturally until I got to my third year in high school.
One such person I knew was in my old English class, called Shakir. He had a real "Fuck everything" attitude and constantly listened to Snoop Dogg. I had to wonder.
I've heard that music can bring out latent personality traits. I certainly don't have a fuck you attitude, but in informal settings I probably speak more coarsely than I write or do speak in more high brow settings.

Spanky, that is extremely insulting and offends me, even though it wasn't directed at me.

I might consider retracting my statement if I am further informed as to the exact nature that he recieves money from the federal government.

Sounded to me like you were implying that he has a Pell Grant, which is unbelievably fucking rude. If that isn't what you were insinuating, now would be the time to clarify. Not that it's anyone's business how or why the government is helping him through school.

I've never been into the whole gangsta rap thing. I'm mostly into metal like Iron Maiden, Priest, Megadeth and classic rock like King Crimson, Pink Floyd, Rush, that kind of stuff. The rap I listen to is mostly limited to groups like A Tribe Called Quest, Blackalicious, Cannibal Ox, Beastie Boys and some Grandmaster Flash.

Since he has just said "Pell and Stafford" as the means, and considering your reaction regarding a Pell Grant, my statement will be retracted as I don't know what "Pell and Stafford" mean.

But I should inform that as a conservative Republican with mild Liberterian leanings and fascist tendencies, I am totally against things such as wellfare and other parasitic programmes.

So am I, although I'm not sure what that has to do with the Pell Grant or Stafford Loan. Find a way to drive the costs of education down and I'll be all for eliminating them.

My point was that you don't know what kind of financial background he comes from since it's none of anyone's business here, and it shouldn't make a damn bit of difference anyway. Interesting how the swing went from him being a spoiled rich boy whose parents might be paying his way through college, to saying he should be embarrassed because the government helps get him through school.

And if you don't know what Pells and Staffords are, look them up. The Pell's a grant and the Stafford's a loan. If you don't know what Staffords are, Spanky, is that because you don't have them? And if so, is that because your parents are paying for your college education or because you got scholarships? If it's because your parents are paying for you, don't you think it's a bit hypocritical to be telling someone they should be embarrassed by how they're getting their college education if you haven't been earning yours?

Not to take this too far off the original topic (though I think that's inevitable now), what exactly is the student tuition fee system like in the US?

I know that the US has the best universities in the world, but I've never really got my head around the costs and general state of paying for the education.

Any help would be appreciated.
